Rear Arches Underseal

  1. #1
Hi,what's a good method to remove the underseal on the rear arches? The stuff seems pretty difficult to take off,a wire brush on a drill works but would take ages, want to avoid any nasty chemicals, what have you used? Thanks.

It looks okay superficially but I wanted to make sure there is no rust underneath as I've read the underseal tends to hide it,besides it's 15 years old now and I can use some good Bilt Hamber products to re-do it.

Could use Donitrol 4941 that's ment to be pretty good stuff, are you converting the rust after the removal of the original sealer?

It will peel back pretty easily in any areas that have rusted underneath because the moisture traps itself under there, any areas where its really difficult to remove should be fine to leave on but if you really want it all off then I think the best method is an aggressive knotted wire wheel on an angle grinder.

I will be using Deox-Gel for the removal of any rust I find then two coats of Electrox and two coats of Dynax-UB.

I will be trying with a scraper and knotted wire wheel, thank you.

Personally i wouldn't use a Remover as they can leave resido that can cause issue's in the future under the Deox-Gel. Would use a Rust converter as they are ment to be painted on and leaft and can have product's put on top of them also are you planning on using a salt remover as, if you leave any salt on the metal it may cause it to oxidise the metal under the sealer.

Deox-Gel is very easily removable by water, any excess is clearly visible anyhow I will be using solvent degreaser prior to painting to remove any dirt.
Deox-Gel leaves a clean bare metal effortlessly, removes heavy rust as well, usually requires a few applications, wouldn't use anything else to be honest.

Can you use a blowtorch and scraper to remove the underseal?

Personally never tried it Maybe I suppose as long as you use something like a knotted wire brush on an angle grinder after wouldst then probably let us know how it goes please make sure there isn't anything like flammable behind it

It would probably just melt/burn if you use a blowtorch on the original stuff because its like a rubberized stone chip material
