Handbrake question

  1. #1
Just a quick one.. Does anyone know if my handbrake will still function properly without the brake lines hooked up as I currently have the brake lines etc stripped off the car and I'm wanting to roll it around but I'm unsure if the handbrake will work if there's no fluid in the calipers? Cheers

Yes that is it's purpose, it is always referred to as a handbrake but it's history is an emergency brake in case the hydraulic brakes failed

This is your worst case scenario:

Haha yes I know I can put bricks to stop the wheels I'm more concerned with it rolling off when I'm moving it about as I need to push it down a bit of a hill to the garage but should be OK if I've got the handbrake as back up. Also will I need to wind the calipers out so the pads are in contact with the discs? Obviously I'm unable to pump the pedal. Or will it adjust itself if I pull the handbrake a few times?

I like that Phaeton lol, practically reads dont blame me if you crash the car, why dont you going test it first wiggle the handbrake leaver on the back of the caliper see if the piston moves

Engine on, keep in first/low 2nd gear and it shouldn't be too much of a problem.

Can't run the engine as everythings pretty much stripped off the car fuel tank and hoses etc just needs moving as the engines coming out next to start stripping down the rest of the car for rebuilding should be fine anyways just glad I can get on with it now I finally have some indoor space to work on it
