Saxo vtr temperature gauge problem

  1. #1
Hi I'm a newbie on this site and looking for a bit of help, a friend has a 02 reg saxo vtr and is having problems with the temperature gauge, when you start the car from cold the temperature gauge goes straight to half way then as the car runs and warms up the gauge drops to the bottom and stays there,

I have bled the water and changed both the sensors but still no joy, I'm also prety sure the cooling fans don't kick in either,

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Sorry I can't be of much help but you can test if the cooling fan is working by unplugging the top temp sensor whilst the engine is running. I would have said change the sensors other than that check all the wiring is ok it could possibly be the actual gauges inside the car though.

Thanks for the reply 😄 If I unplug the top green plug the fan does kick in, so atleast the fan motor is okay, don't know if the gauge not working is connected to the fan not kicking in tho,

the car isn't using water so don't think it's getting too hot but would like to get the gauge working for peice of mind

I'm pretty sure the gauge wouldn't affect the fan as the sensor for the fan is wired to the ecu and the other sensor is for the gauges, the fan does take quite a while to kick in anyway though so it might be ok, I remember waiting a very long time for it to kick in when I did a coolant flush.

Are all of the other gauges working ok?Try unplugging the battery for 30mins.

With you sat in the car get someone to wiggle the wires for the temp gauge sensor. If it affects the gauge then you've got a break in the loom.

Good idea, will try that as soon as I can
