  1. #1
Hey all I've got a MK2 VTR (90bhp) and have been offered a 106 Gti engine with everything with it for £500,just wondering how easy it would be to make it go into my VTR and what would need changing etc?
    Thanks

    think you would need

    engine
    key igition barrell
    ecu
    wiring loom
    radiator

cant think straight its too late - do a search

    fan....

u gotta cut and splice th loom together aswell, and run a return fuel line, although some people say this aint nessacary

you dont need fan or ignition barrel.
    you need rad hoses aswell.
use a vts loom and you wont need to cut it.
    also need throttle cable.
    thats pretty much it.
and either bolck the fuel return off or plumb it in, up to you.

    Just two more quick questions

    1. Do I have to change my exhaust,cat-back system etc if I change my engine?

    2. If I was to mod my new engine I obviously just buy manifold/cams etc for a 106 Gti??

Thanks (Tried repping you all but already repped 2 of you before)

106 gti and saxo vts are the same engine mate it doesnt matter which one you use
  9. #9
oh and the answer to your questions

1, you shouldnt have to make sure you get the manifold and downpipe and at worst you might have to cut a part of your old exhaust and weld it to the new down pipe so it fits

2,yea cams and 4-2-1 manifold would be a good start and maybe a chip

Would I buy a 106 manifold or a saxo one?
  11. #11
doesnt matter mate which ever ones cheaper i suppose lol

someone told me you needed iginition barrell, somethin to do with the ecu, but you know your shit and know more than me

surely a furio fan is smaller than the vts?
  14. #14
yeah the fan is different but its not a neccesaty (sp)
i think they might have been on about the pick-up ring around the ignition barrel but you dont need it as this is not coded.
i know vtr exhausts wont fit a vts properly as cats are different lengths but not sure about a furio.

    (I have a VTR)
So does that mean that if I were to stick a VTS/GTi engine in I would have to change my exhaust system?
    Thanks
  16. #16
no mate, no need to change system i wouldnt think so.
  17. #17
u wunt need to change ya exhaust as long as ya manafold sits on ya head corectly.
  18. #18
you will, it will be a different length. the vtr mani is a different length to a vts mani. the tail pipe will be under the rear of the car.
  19. #19
So that means that I will have to change my whole exhaust system then?

na mate have you got a friend with a welder if so when the engine's fitted put the manifold on and see how it lines up you might have to cut abit of your old down pipe and weld it to the new manifold its not hard i had to do it when i put the v6 in my mates astra
