Engine swap - ECU & Immobliser

  1. #1
    Hi all

Facing the end of the life of my engine,

I just wanted to know, if I swap JUST the engine, literally remove and refit the new one, can I use the same ECU etc without upsetting the immobiliser or do I need everything from the car the engine came from?

If not, will a jp4 accept the j4 ECU?

    Thanks in advance

just swap the engine, they're not coded to the ecu.

Was more immobilizer I'm worried about, as the car can't be started.
Will both the ECU and immobilizer accept a new engine?

    Thanks Welsh

    Cool.
    J4 ECU/JP4 Engine compatibility?
Sensors can be made to fit but what about the actual ECU - j4s are hard to find now!

If you drill the JP4 head to accept the J4 inlet you've got nothing to worry about.
Except maybe if your J4 is very early you might need to swap the coolant temp sensors to the JP4 head because the connector type changed mid-J4.

That's the plan. It's an 02 so should be okay!

Any idea of what sensors need changing or is it altogether very different?

    Thanks bud
