106 immobiliser issue

I’m sure this is an issue which have been covered many times, but I’ve done a few searches and can’t find anything which will help.

Story is, Peugeot 106 1.1 (S reg 1-pin ECU) non keypad immobiliser, keys were lost. We’ve managed to buy a replacement key along with mating ignition barrel, door locks, petrol cap, boot locks etc. however the car turns over but won't start.

I’ve read a bit about black ‘fag packet’ mod behind the glovebox (the car is missing this entirely, I think it's pre-blackbox), but this needs to be done with the immobiliser car running, which I can’t do. What is the immobiliser actually doing? Preventing the fuel pump from priming, stopping the distributer from sparking? Can there be a workaround which we can start the car by bypassing the immobiliser, then doing the black fag packet mod?

    Any help appreciated.

Have you checked the fuel pump cut off switch and the relay under the ecu?Can you hear the pump prime?

My S1 XS did this, after being layed up while working on it over winter..
I remved the Black box behind the dash and replaced the ecu with one i had from another 106 Id broke. The ecu i used was 1 that had a keypad immobiliser..
So it now runs with no keypad or black box..

Cheers for the responses lads. Still not resolved this.

Fuel pump cut off switch has been checked and is fine. The fuel pump also primes. I’m certain that, because the ignition barrel has been changed, the ECU/immobiliser no longer recognises the barrel/key. In addition, we’ve been behind the glove box and can’t seem to find the black box immobiliser. I’m sure I’m looking in the right place as I confirmed the location on my Saxo, the 106 is older, but it looks as though just missing it entirely…

Another update on this. We ordered a new ECU (sold as ‘unlocked’ – whatever the seller termed as unlocked), key, ignition barrel, and the ignition barrel surround (the black plastic with the small connection) but we’re still having the same issue. The car turns over but does not fire.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Probably a silly question but have you checked your starter motor is working?
I take it you've taken a plug out and checked for spark? If you've spark, fuel and air there should be combustion.

Thanks for the response. The starter motor appears to be working correctly (there was never an issue with the starter before losing the key), but I have not checked it. The car turns over, just doesn’t fire.

However I know what you’re saying, it sort of goes back to my original question of ‘what is the immobiliser actually doing?’. Because if the immobiliser does prevent, say for example, the fuel pump then I’ll be able to bypass it.

The immobiliser black box is on the underside of the steering column on a 106, NOT behind the glovebox as it is on a saxo.

Unlocked ECU normally has the immobiliser pin removed from the ECU on the ones I've seen. If all the pins are intact you can be sure it's re-locked itself.

On my 106, the immobiliser simply interrupted a 12v feed to the ECU. presumably the feed which drives the coil pack and the injectors. (mine wasn't petrol!)

You are a beauty. If you lived closer I'd buy you a pint.

The immobiliser has been removed, no idea whether that's going to make a difference now, or not. I've asked my mate to take a picture of the ECU connector at both ends (the car is at his house) and will post back when I have it. Cheers.

Aye Derby(shire) is a little bit far for a pint!

I'm not sure why the immobiliser info is so badly documented. I see this getting asked often. Glad you found it.
