The starter motor is on a totally separate circuit to the engine loom. i.e the starter can still turn the engine over with NO ecu fitted using the key.

1.) if the engine isnt turning over, it's a starter/starter feed issue. check the wiring including the battery terminals.

2.) If the engine is turning over, but you've got no start and you can't hear the fuel pump, it's likely the power feed to the ECU. check the wiring, also the main chassis plug can sometimes get corroded terminals, may be worth unpluggin it and spraying it with contact cleaner.

Test the crank sensor with a multi-meter set on AC voltage and see what you get.
Needs to be about 2.5 volts or more.
If it's low it could be because the crank isn't turning fast enough (so battery, starter, grotty wiring or earths) or it could also be dying.
If you fit a new crank sensor fit a genuine part, or else you'll be fitting another one again soon. Buy cheap buy twice. More true now than ever with all the shit Chinese garbage everywhere.
