hi, im about to buy a citroen saxo, it has been painted because it had lacquer peeling off of it the owner said. do these cars rust? i dont live in a rust belt area because here in malta there isnt any snow or salt on the roads, just rain.

i checked all the body, its straight as an arrow, ive found no rust anywhere, sills are good, under the door weatherstripping is good, car undercarriage is good, arches are good, roof where there is rubber no rust also.... even in the engine bay i checked for rust there isnt any, i checked where there is the spare tyre, no rust. what you guys think?

Good for you if you haven't found anything.

One not so obvious spot is just under the ECU, only bit of rust I found on mine back in the day and easily sorted...

Also open the boot and lift the carpet on bottom and sides to check if any.

Why would they? Most cars now don't have galve panels just epoxy or electrolytic epoxy coating.

Thought he meant they wouldn't have any type of treatment other than standard paint lol.

I meant that the body would be galvanized (zinc coated) at the factory. I have never seen a saxo with rust

I purchased a year 2000 Saxo a couple of years ago. I live in an area where roads are salted, and we have snow and slush in winter months.

I found the first and only rust damage in rear wheel arches where the boot sidewalls connect to the boot floor. There are triple steel sheets spot welded together. It was easier to detect the rust from outside; to find it inside the boot, I had to lift the boot floor carpet and peel away the carpet glued on boot sides.
