Help - Loud knocking under acceleration after new clutch!?

  1. #1
    Hello

I have just had the clutch replaced on my '00 VTR. Since having this done it's developed a loud knocking (sounds in time with the wheels turning) under acceleration and more so when turning (especially left).

It is also leaking quite a lot of gearbox oil which I've been told is most likely a driveshaft seal, however I was told after having the clutch fitted that both driveshafts look fairly new and in good condition. I've only owned this car since May.

The wishbone and lower suspension set up all looks pretty new and fresh, all seals/boots and joints look good and feel tight and sturdy with no excess play and there were no unusual knocks or any noises I would maybe expect of a 17 year old car prior to the clutch being done.

I am reluctant to put money into replacing the lower arms. droplinks balljoints etc. After reading a few older threads on this site trying to gather info as it seems like it may be something completely different.

Any help would be massively appreciated - I am supposed to be driving to the Nurburgring in 9 days and this is throwing quite a spanner in the works!!

I'm no expert but the knocking under acceleration sounds like a drive shaft to me. Might be worth checking to see it's all gone back together correctly and something may not be seated properly.

Yeah as above, sounds like the shaft (haha shaft) may not be pushed into the box fully!

Has the shaft been put back into the bearing carrier on the driverside correctly?? What side of the box is the leak coming from tbh if I was you I would take it back to the garage who fitted your clutch and ask them to have a look as it sounds to me like something hasn’t been refitted correctly and if you just leave it it’s gonna get worse and just make a mess of everything

Hi cheers for the replies guys, I'm taking it back tomorrow morning to have a look so will get the work re-examined..! The leak is coming from the passenger side, it drips fairly central but definitely originates from the left.

I'll find out tomorrow I guess, hopefully everything is still in a useable condition haha
