1.1i Forte Starting Problems

  1. #1
Having a few starting issues with my lil saxo which I believe is nothing more than needing a new starter motor, but before spend cash I don't have on a new one I wanted to get a few other opinions.

    So here's the story.

On the 2nd day of driving it around, having no issues with it at all, I drive around for about an hour and prob stopped 3 times on my route, with no problems starting it. Only to pull up out side a tyre garage, that don't fix cars!, and have it fail to start on me, with nothing but a click. Guys in the garage try jump starting it for me to no avail, only to have them bump start it for me.

After getting home I discover that the problem was most likely a stuck starter. So after it again just clicked when I tried to start it I rocked it in 2nd a few times and then it started. Drove to a mates and when I tried to leave it wouldn't start again, however this time it was turning over. Managed to start it getting a jump off a spare battery in my boot.

Now this keeps happening, but sometime it'll start first go, sometimes I need to give it a jump, and sometimes I have to bump it down a hill.

So I'm hoping its just a dodgy starter, but can anyone tell me I'm wrong?

Yes, probably the starter motor. Is it bolted on tight? The pinion gear is not making correct contact with the flywheel. Take it off and clean it up, if it still doesn't work the springs must be weak , just go to a scrappers and buy another.

So yeah it was the starter. For peace of mind I bought a new one, had it out and the new one fitted in under an hour.
