EML Light

  1. #1
Need abit of help with the Mrs little old car. Changed the battery and now engine management light has come on and it will only rev to 3000 rpm and then it starts to judder ( limp mode ), I suggested weighing it in for scrap and get a new one but she wants to get it fixed.

Any ideas how to fix this issue? The car was plugged into diagnostic reader yesterday and no faults are stored.

    2001 Citreon Saxo.

    Manual.
    Red.

Wish I had never changed the battery now.

    Any help much appreciated.

    Thanks,

These cars don't have a limp mode as such.

Changing the battery doesn't normally cause things to fail unless you've perhaps tugged a wire under the bonnet when changing the battery.

If the EML is flashing you have a spark/ignition fault.

If it's steady you've got a fuel related fault (coolant temp, lambda etc)

A generic OBD scanner won't work correctly, it needs to be something like a Snap On Modis or Diagbox with lexia.

The EML is flashing so will change the plugs, coil pack and crank case sensor at the weekend.
Thanks for you help and if anyone else has any ideas please let me know.

Update: Changed the plugs, coil pack and crank sensor and she is now running and driving fine, however I still have the small issue of the engine management light flashing.

How do I get this to go off?

Read the codes, almost any code reader should read what you need to see.

When it was hooked up to the diagnostics no cadets were stored.

Sorry that was meant to read codes.

If the light is flashing there should be something stored I'd have thought

unplug the battery, ignition + lights on to drain anything left, replug.
