Cylinder reference number 1

Hi guys, my 02 plate vts has got major issues. When you start it up it will run sweet as anything but then after 30 seconds it runs on 3 cylinders then just keeps flicking between 3 and 4. Plugged it in and I got a knock sensor error code and a cylinder reference number 1 code. It's had a new knock sensor fitted (the old one was cracked) new coilpack and fresh fuel put in. Could it be the injector? Thanks, Elliott

Hi elmartha I would be very suspicious of the injector(s) and ignition coil.
Yes I noticed you mentioned it's new, but have you checked it before commission it into service? :-)

I've had 3 different coil packs on now and everyone does the same, turn it off and leave it 30 seconds and then runs sweet again. I was hoping it wasn't going to be an injector. Once you restart the car if you get it above 2k rpm it stays on all 4 it's only when the revs drop down it loses a cylinder

Check your wiring loom for breaks.

    Could be a lambda sensor

When you first start the car it'll be running in open loop. then when it switches to closed loop it's shitting itself because it'll be getting incorrect readings from the sensor. It'll be the sensor nearest the cylinder head if you have 2 sensors.

I've had this fault before and it was the top lambda. Thing is when it happened before it's because I had burnt through the wires/melted them onto my manifold. I unplugged it and it didn't change anything.
As for breaks in the wiring harness, it all seems good. It's not long since had a new loom put in and was running great until I parked it up over winter!
