oil leaking from sensor

    I have an oil leak coming from a sensor under my saxo furio. You can see me pointing to it with a screw driver. It appears to be leaking from the plastic part



    Here is a wider view, so you can see where the sensor is in relation to everything else




    Presumably I will need a new sensor? Or can it be sealed with something? I don't want to spend too much on the car as I will be getting a new car real soon.

    If it will need a new sensor, does anyone know the part number?

    After more examination, I wonder if this is the oil pressure switch as shown here

    If it is the oil pressure switch, presumably I have to drain the oil before I change it?

    My 1.1 desire has a leak there too, oil pressure switch. My old saxo had a leak there too. Garages charged me £15 parts and labour to replace. I don't believe you need to drain the oil as it should all drain to the sump if you let it sit for a short while first. I have a switch in my boot which I need to swap over. Going to do mine next week when I replace the front fog light, screen wash pump and all parts of the front suspension!

    thanks for confirming it is the oil pressure switch. Does anyone know the spanner size? I just tried 22mm and it seems a bit loose. I don't have a 21mm to try, but I guess it is probably 21mm - does anyone know?

    Don't know the spanner size but I would like to know how big in the end as I will probably be tackling this job towards the end of the week.

    I will let you know tomorrow. I think I am going to get my dremel and cut the sensor off. That way I can get a 6 point socket on there. I don't want to risk rounding anything with a spanner. I may also use a little heat / spray on oil to help things.

    You just need a deep socket mate,placed over the top.

    My deep sockets are too deep, as with the ratchet on they end up fowling on the sensor on the bottom of the exhaust. There is not much clearance there. I am going to go out later this morning and cut/dremel the sensor off. I can then get a smaller socket on there.

    I have now removed the sensor and can confirm it is 22mm. I used my dremel and cut the sensor off and then put a 22mm socket on there. You could try a deep socket, but as I say there is not much clearance. So probably easier just to cut it off, and then put a normal socket on there. With the dremel it took about 20 seconds.

    You are best with a 22mm impact socket. I tried a normal 12 point halfrods socket but it started to round the corners. I then went to a 6 point impact socket and it gripped it well. I also used some freezing spray and sprayed plenty of dismantling oil in there. Due to the tight space, I used a 250mm socket extension with the 22mm socket.

    Just going to the shop now to buy the sensor. With the discount code Euro car parts have them for about £3

    All sorted now and car is running with no leaks. The sensor with online discount was only £3.83 from Euro car parts.

    Lost some oil when doing my sensor today because I didn't realise it was at the base of the oil filter!

    Sensor came out really easily. A lot of brake cleaner was used in the area. Was just one of many jobs I did on the car today and it feels like a new car again, brakes steers and drives brilliantly!
