Oil leak issues

    Hey guys.
    I own a 20 year old 1.1 forte sort of inherited it, owned from new, it’s getting into it’s final years, or rather that point where I’m not handy enough to do any repairs so costs start to add up.
    Not driven much through lock down, once every other week, was planning on part exchanging this year then covid19 shut up shop and, then I go and find a dark oil blob just off centre on the drivers side.
    Serviced yearly mid-June. Last MOT was January failed on a few things for it's age, nothing oil related was picked up on then.

    Attached a few pictures taken from shoving my hand underneath the car basically, the angles are not great sadly as car is currently in my garage.

    I honestly barely know what I’m looking at, wondered if someone could give me a heads up on what/where it might be?

    It has dripped slightly onto the timing belt which I know is bad, it seems to be coming from above the drive shaft/cv joint that goes into the gearbox? And coming from just above at the rear of the engine block? Again, no idea what I’m looking at really.
    I’ve lost no engine oil, but I’ve not driven it much.

    Thinking about wiping off the oil where it’s collected and then maybe taking it out for a drive, but super concerned about the timing belt now, seems to be all outter belt and it’s splattered a bit off but can't see any specs on the teeth bit of the belt.

    thats not to bad ,you should see mine,at this age it could be anything.
    how have you seen the cam belt .it is covered up.

    Rocker cover leaks on 8v saxo's very common fault.

    Yeah, begining to realise it's not that bad, just saw oil on the floor and panicked to be honest! First oil related issue for it's age not bad.

    Yeah the rocker gasket looks like it would for it's age, tightened the bolts up to slight resistance (not tight, just tighter than what they were).


    Had a better look today, wiped off the oil I could reach, took it for a drive nothing immediately replaced where it had collected. Not as close to the timing belt as the first angle I saw it from suggested, I was cramped in the garage at that point finding out how flexible I'm not.

    This was after I'd managed to clean it a little.


    Just going to keep an eye on it for now.

    Your inner CV boot has a pin hole in it or has deteriorated along the seam where it meets the alloy tube. that's CV grease, not oil, on your engine.

    Your engine block is bone dry otherwise, I can see in the photos.

    You need a special tool to re-crimp a new boot onto the driveshaft.

    You have 2 options, take it to a garage and have them do it OR for a similar cost you could change the whole driveshaft.

    If it's an original shaft and it is not worn, I would have the boot changed only.
