Saxo VTR 2002 (02) Garage Find! Getting it running after 10 years!

  1. #1
    Hi all,

So a Citroen Saxo VTR has been garaged for the last 10 years (they flew by) and hasn’t been started - I’m attempting a project to get it at least started and running (not necessarily on the road lol…yet…) and I’ll be honest, I’m no mechanic!

But so far, I’ve obviously purchased a new battery - wishful thinking if I was to think it was as simple as that haha! That got me as far as a single click when turning the ignition, if you’re persistent and hold the key all the way, it proceeds to the rapid clicking. CD Player, central locking, hazards and lights etc all working with the ignition on which is a good sign I presume.

So I thought, what next? Okay, so I’ve serviced it because that’s a given and relatively easy to do. Checked the fuses… just because it’s easy to access and they’re all fine. 😅 The car does have ancient fuel, but 1/4 of a tank so not an issue to prevent it from starting. I also noticed that the negative battery terminal connected was corroded and snapped, so that could be one issue - replacement on the way…

Leaving the starter motor and alternator presumably? So I’ve whipped the starter motor out, they’re relatively cheap so hoping to pick one up tomorrow and replace it.

If there’s still no joy, any solutions or ideas are more than welcome.

I appreciate that in due course, it’ll need non-ancient fluids running through it at some point to leaving it running for an extended period of time, but all I want at the moment is the satisfaction of hearing its first purr in 10 years! 😇

Please note, I’m looking to get this running as at minimal cost with hopes of moving on for someone who wants to turn this one careful lady owner, 70k VTR in to a refurbished classic.

I’m hoping you guys can help!
