I own a pro-Tech 4-2-1 Manifold and was wondering if anyone apart form me have heard of them and what they think?
  2. #2
i got 1 its spot on mate
  3. #3
    Yea thought so
  4. #4
nice meaty tone and good performance increse's from it cant complain and its top quality too
  5. #5
been reading a thread someone said they lost a lot of top end performance???

    is this true?

any problems with your manifolds? thinking of getting one!
  6. #6
I got one - was my 1st mod! And i thought it slowed me down! I was really gutted when i 1st put it on it just didnt seem as fun to drive-just felt like i lost all that top end pull! got a decat and just felt the same then got a remus tube and it defo feels a bit faster but i dont know wether thats the remus tube or the manifold! Still got the standard back box on so it will probs give a bit more if i change that.

Couldnt possibly slow you down the facts are is the standard manifold is restrictive this manifold has bigger primaries going into 4-2-1 and the exit is also alot larger aswell for this to slow you down is a physical impossibility, you are just getting confused to what people say this 4-2-1 design manifold does. This will increase your power low down meaning you are faster and have more toque on acceleration but it doesnt improve high end meaning the top end is the same, it has not improved your high end revs as the design of the manifold is to improve bottom end performance. A 4-1 manifold increase's performance higher into the revs hence 4000rpm or higher you will have more torque and power there for giving you a little more to play with at top revs, a performance manifold of a 4-2-1 design will not slow your car in anyway possible.

I bought one, It didnt fit, it didnt even come close to fitting, so i sent it back.

Well maybe it hasnt slowed me down it just felt slower... with the standard manifold on it used to get to about 4500/5000rpm then pull harder i think this manifold has smoothed off my power curce a bit (giving the impression that it doesnt get faster after 5000rpm) which made it less fun to drive.
Its loads better now with the straight through middle section though

I thought that the trick when designing a manifold was to alter the lenghts of where the 4pipes go into 2 and 2 go into one so that it has like a sucking effect sucking the exhaust from the cylinders.
And the lenghts of where the pipes join are crucial to this sucking effect!

Have you got a VTR? - Ive never seen a standard VTR manifold but on the VTS the manifold just looks like a cast version of the pro-teck! It may be a tiny bit bigger than the standard one but looking at it i dont really see how it could give me much more power than the standard one?

Im probs completly wrong? but it certainly doesnt feel like ive got an extra 10bhp like it claimed to give! My cars exactly the same speed as my mates vts!
Or maybe it needs backbox on or a remap to give that extra power?

I've never heard of pro-tech, where are they bought from?
  11. #11
flea-bay Dan. you get what you pay for, i've heard stories of ill fitting, i've heard stories of it fitting fine. you pay your money you take your choice.
  12. #12
To be fair, mine came nowhere near close to fitting, but they were very good when i raised the problem and gave me a full refund, including delivery etc.
  13. #13
Mine fitted fine, cant really faukt it, guess i was lucky?
  14. #14
got it from ebay for £140 i havnt seen one on for a while i was watching them go week by week and they were going for about £250 a time and thought i got lucky when i got it for 140!

I forgeot to mention it doesnt fit properly! the bracket that goes onto the gearbox doesnt even nearly line up
  15. #15
no it doesnt its not even close, nor does the bracket on the raceland manifold.

With the pro-tech one mine didnt line up with any of the studs at the top at all was awful. Did look good quality tho like the welds etc they just obviously cant measure fook all.
  16. #16
there is 1 fitted as far as i know the garage who fitted it had no problems and it doesnt seem to show any sign of been tight to fit

I think its a mistake by the company with the dates etc as i pressume you have the silver top engine where as myn is the black top not sure if there is a difference between to the two heads bolt positions and so on but i cant fault it at all really
  18. #18
Heres is a pic before it was fitted as you can see its of high quality and looks pretty nice
  19. #19
There shouldnt be a difference in the black tops to the silver tops really, the only difference will be from vtr to vts.

theres is as the oil filter is in the way on a mk2 with a mk1 manifold

i have a 90bhp mk2 should fit shouldnt i as its the same as a black top really? there is one kicking around near me, if i get it will cry if the shit doesnt fit.....

mk2 isnt always silvertop tho, Mines a mk1 silver top 99 plate, and the oil filter is out of the way,

Also stiffler ave a look under ur car see if they managed to get the mountin bracket onto the gearbox ok

Had a look mate and there is no mounting bracket on the manifold as far as im aware of anyway will have a better look tomorrow when its light could of done with some pics of the 1 you received to see if it was the same

ive got one of the manifolds, build quality is great with good gains

Got it fitted to a mk1 silver top so it does fit them, and with decat and straight through centre pipe it makes it sound amasing and good performance i would say i could keep up with a standard vts

...but manifold fitted on with standard exhaust system and cat was dung! get enclosed induction kit for the hell of it too.
  26. #26
I've got one of these, and it was abit of a bastard to fit too. And yeah, didn't line up to the gearbox mount!

My exhaust system is blowing from somewhere too, think its the back box, god damn cars!!
  27. #27
Yeah sorry what i ment was, just coz its a silver top doesnt mean its a mk2.

Also dunno why mine didnt fit but it was awful, so back it went, must say tho really did look good build quality
