carbs on westcoast?

Has anybody tried carbs on a 1.4 westcoast engine? are they more or less the same engine as in a 205xs?

carbs have no place on modern engines. if you want increased performance then put a vts engine in your car.

You could't fit carbs on a westcoast, injectors are there for a reason these days, they are alot more efficent and alot less goes wrong with them.

You could put it on carbs fairly easily. Emmisions would be a problem though and they are a hastle. VTS would be the way to go but if you're determined then its more than doable. Throttle boddies are another (expencive) option

Carbs are the best, not on a westy tho mate, on a vts, there so much simpler than injection systems and its a serious BHP gain!!

how are carbs the best? they have no way of automatically adjusting the fuelling according to inlet and ambient temps, so if you had them set up on a cold day (when temps are cooler) they would run lean on a warm day (when temps are warmer) and vice versa. carbs also suffer from warm start problems and cold start problems in the winter. then there's passing an mot with them. also fuel economy is shit as you have one carb fuelling 2 cylinders so it's a bit hit and miss. throttle bodies are the way to go multi injection on a modern engine, more precise fuelling and far more adjustablilty than carbs will ever have.

sean - you beat me to it. carbds are just no-where near as reiable and accurate at fueliing than EFI, no matter what engine they are on, whether it be car or bike engine.

people that are being mis-informed dont mis-inform others. it can cost them more money in the long run.

Your rite, there not reliable and there not as accurate but they are easier to work on, easia to maintain and give you a shit load of BHP!!

you have just admitted they are not as reliable and not as accurate as EFI. so please explain how they are better. you also wont pass an emissions test on MOT with them. and they need regularaly setup to constatly have good performance from.
throttle bodies will give you more bhp.
you ARE mis-informing people.

experience of what exactly? you may well see gains with carbs, but nowhere near what you'd see with throttle bodies, not least because the fuelling is far more accurate therefor allowing the timing to be advanced more without having to worry about it running lean. then there's superior reliability, fuel economy, adustability etc etc. suddenly carbs don't seem so good do they?

buy some carbs and go rallying.

all you need is a flat head screw driver to tune them in. easy.

my mate has a mk2 escort with a 1.7 crossflow fully raced by harris perfomance engines and if it aint running right he pops the hood turns one screw on each of his twin 40 and its runnig perfect. this bad boy wheel spins in third.
