vts cams

    Iv finally decided a vts conversion would be best for my westy but i want to make it a bit more special than a standard vts so i was thinking about cams, manifold and a full system for starters.......how much quicker would it be than a standard vts? im not sure which cams to get yet but ones which will work best with those mods. thanks

    to make the most out of your cams you will need it mapped.
    as for cams:
    catcams 708
    kent pt51
    piper bp285
    newmans iirc phase 2

    piper are quite a popular choice on here arent they? how much extra bhp do u think they would add before a remap and with 1?

    not much without, i dont know anyone using pipers but with pt51s or 708s you can expect 150-160 after mapping.

    I have PIPER 285s unmapped at the moment and it REALLY does need mappin LOL

    i have heard things about cammed vts's bein quicker than a redtop corsa is that true. my mate has a redtop astra and that is quick!

    i've put a gti engine in my rallye and it beats red top nova's and corsa's.

    iv been told a few days ago if you do the cams on a vts/r it makes it run real bad, asif its a rally car kinda thing, if you get me, and ticks over at real high revs.

    but maybe the lad that was telling me hadnt got his mapped when he got it done

    After its been mapped it should idle fine.

    on there site they list PH1, PH3 and PH4

    think the PH2 may be a mix

    PH2 is PH3 intake + PH1 exhaust. I use this combination on my saxo. The result is amazing. I haven't been on dyno yet but the car is much faster than before. And this is with everything else stock just cams and kind of remap with wideband on the road.

    whats the difference between the cams etc.. i know they have different degrees and stuff but whats that mean in terms of how it delivers power and acceleration etc...

    well the more duration means its got the valves open longer, and that also means that there will be more lift avaliable.

    so in short it means alot more air, etc.

    but you can't really go more than 708's, PH3's etc on standard intake and management.

    ill probally go with 708's but i was wondering what the difference would be between them and kent pt51 cams etc..

    if there the same sorta specs which car would be faster?

    not much in it iirc, i think the kent and piper ones are just more expensive as you are paying for the name as well imo.
