The good old T Bar?

  1. #1
Now that I have some front struts again and everything seems to be ok I now unfortunately have to tackle the torsion bar.

I’m under no illusions that this wont be straight forward and it’s almost guaranteed that the torsion bar is going to be seized. I’m under the impression that you only find out that the torsion bar is seized when trying to remove it.

So my question is…….When I find out the torsion bar is seized how do you get around this problem and if its not possible can it just be put back nothing lost nothing gained style?

It’s all about managing expectations when messing my Saxo.

Any help would be appreciated and I’m aware that torsion bar questions are as common as “Vts into Vtr?” but I haven’t managed to find an answer to my particular question hence the need for this thread.

    Cheers

heat it up, dousing it in coke and hitting it hard are the best options. Finding someone with a good hammer technique is also a good move.

If all else fails then you can put it back together, nothing lost or gained

Sounds like a plan as long as it can all be restored to its previous setup If I fail to free it then I'm happy.

yes, just a pain and a waste of time in that case. Mine was solid, we tried everything. In the end we used a bloke with big arms and a big hammer. Worked a treat

I'll use my strenght within I'm sure that'll be enough.

Have you given up on the BTB? *Not related issue, sorry*

lol, i know of 3 other people watching that

its the torx bolts which are a pain in the arse on the torsions bars imo, rusted/seized in than they just round off, GAY!!!!!!!

btw dave, off topic but is your car 3 plug? what power and where (RPM) did you make when the car was mapped?

Dont worry about staying on topic it went off topic a while ago its all abit random.

I know there's going to be problems with the Torx can they be drilled/grinded off if needed or is that a bad idea?

Just trying to have a back up plan for all the possible problems as I'm bound to come across them all.

The BTB is going to go for stupid amounts.

get them off any way you can, but get some new hex bolts or allen key bolts to go back in, TORX ARE GAY, its official!!!!!

Slicing a torx head with a blade screwdriver is an effective way to get them off!

Rgarding the torsion bars. Soak in penetrative lubricant and if needs be use a blow torch to heat/expand the collar.

Getting the stupid shape washers out and back in is also muchos fun!

I'll bare the Gayness of the torx in mind when I'm attacking them with a hammer.

    Cheers lads.

Maybe I shouldn't give them a good pounding then!!!

They might get the wrong idea and before I know it I'm dancing to girls aloud at G.A.Y and trying to adopt some children*.
