Ideal Spec?

  1. #1
There are so many different options of squeezing out some extra power out of a VTS engine which made me wonder what would the ideal spec be?

I'm talking realistic specs that would still leave you with an everyday car which doesn't need rebuilding every week.

Going on my own setup and what I'd like to achieve I'd go for this option:

    What I have

    Closed induction kit (Raceland)
    421 Manifold (Raceland)
    Decatted Powerflow Exhaust (Single Silencer)

    What I'd like

    Piper X viper
    I'd keep the Raceland 421
Swap the powerflow for a btb
    Port and polish the head.
    Cat cams
Stnad alone ECU of some sort
    T/B Conversion

I dont say that's the ultimate spec but I'd be happy with that little lot although I have no idea which ECU is best for job as thats where it becomes a minefield.

    Your thoughts people?

feck off that piper X shit for a BMC. Decide on the cam profile, then sort the headwork, TBs are only worth while on lairy cams

I'd personally like to go hardcore o the cams, fit a C2 head with bigger valves, have that worked on, rebate the pistons, solid lifters and bust through the 8k barrier. Ou est mon credit card

actually, you don't need an induction kit with TBs. Doh!

I was thinking of adding the t/bs at a later date so the induction kit would be scrapped and I forgot about the C2 head.

    8k is steep though.

c2 head is a lot of hassle i looked into it a while back.
pt52 with solids, jenveys and omex, port polished, skimmed, 3 angled valved seat head. maybe high comp pistons and lightening balancing.
    supersprint fanny and btb

unless you use the GMC setup with the green induction kit

i have had the BMC on for a couple of days and car feels a bit lifeless higher up the revs.
if you get headwork done get it somewhere with experiance and matched to your cams, induction system and exhaust system. ie not the most expensive head job they do., what ever is right for your setup.

A friend of mine said exactly the same thing to me once, and he knows his stuff. The Rs200, Volvo Touring car team and others have benifited from his top end work, not to mention the odd F1 team

it makes sense, no point in going for huge ports and valves etc with pt50s.

I've just been reading this post on SSC it has a load of different options but the the bike t/bs is very temtping as they are alot cheaper than the car equiverlant although do require more time when setting them up.

KMS seems to be all the rage but I dont know a great deal about it, can anyone shed some light on the situation?

the KMS is just another type of standalone. a few on SSC have started using it. the choise is pretty endless it just depends on how much you wanna spend. if your going to use tb's though your best off getting some wilder cams (than 708s pt51s etc) to make the most out of them.

its all down to cash flow

I wanted to build up gradually and have the option to add bits as I go hence the desire for the stand alone as I'm under the impression there cheaper and easy to remap than the std ecu?

The next logical step would be to get some cams and a standalone which would allow for the arrival of throttle bodies once my bank balance has recovered .

In all honesty its so bloody confusing I think it might be easier to just leave it alone.

haha, if you are wanting tb's you'll have to go standalone.
remapping off standard (once 1st done) will work out the same as remapping a standalone (unless you DIY) as all you pay for is RR time. but you only have wayne to go to to get standard ecu remapped.
