for each gear, what revs do you change up? and in which car? as far as performance goes, whats best?
change gear at what rpm?

#2Not a straight forward method knowing when best to change gear without knowing the torque profile of the engine to be honest...
Trial and error is going to be the best way for you... as a rough rule dont take it past the max horse power of the car... as i say its very very rough rule.
The very technical way..
i just started to write a shit load but honestly cant be assed. if you want to know I'll pm it to you. -
#3Actually if anyone is willing to send me a rolling road print out (with torque profile) and tells me the box they are using I can work it out exactly when is best to shift.
-
#4basically as ad says, find out where in the rev range the car makes it's peak power and torque, as revving past that point basically just makes a lot of noise without actually doing anything
-
#5how can you find when it makes its peak power and torque?
-
#6the saxo spec sheet gives a guide to the expected torque and power outputs... however each engine is different and have been treated differently.
The only way that i know of to get a fairly accurate idea is to rolling road it. -
#7looking at the parkers this is the profile of my car
− Performance
Engine Size: 1360 cc
Cylinders: 4
0-60 mph: 11.2 s
Power Output: 75 bhp
Valves: 8
Torque: 82 lb/ft
Top Speed: 109 mph
i have a standard exhaust system-so if you can work it out for me that will be great -
#8peak power on a furio is at something like 5800rpm or something like that. cant remember off the top of my head
-
#975hp @ 5500rpm
but as i say i doubt many of the engines will actually produce that amount at that level... could be higher could be lower.
and 82lbft @ 3400rpm -
#11Quote:so rev it to 5800 then? christ. i just fitted a new back box that gets a little noisey. its good cos it stops me reving excesively.
in theory yes but in reality there's little point unless to absolutely rag your car to death every time to get in it. mine barely goes above 3500rpm in any gear and that does me fine. -
#12mine normally see's 7.2k
-
#138k on the way home from work if I've had a crap day. Usually keep it to about 7300 on track.
-
#14thought your rev limit was at 7800???
mines 7.5 atm but will be 7800 soon
-
#15it bounces round to 8k on the dial, softlimiter or something. Either that or the Rev counter over reads, but thats hardly likely on a precision instrument like a citroen
-
#16lol, soft cut is first then hard cut. soft cut is where it bounces hard cut is when it feels like it just stops, if you know what i mean?
-
#17Not sure where mine is to be honest. Its all over by about 7800 anyway so its not a massive concern. Best to change up early rather than blow it up
-
#18i know what you mean. experienced both i think. hard cut when i just didnt find a gear but kept on accelerating anyway maybe.
