Rear Brakes?

  1. #1
    Hiya

Got a Slight problem with rear brakes, which im hoping will be caliper related.

When i break very hard i can hear one of the rear wheels lock up and it pulls the back end of the car out of line and in some cases ive almost been side ways. When driving at relativley slow speeds the brakes are fine, its only when im travelling pretty fast and break hard that this happens...... could it be a seized caliper or is it something worse thats going to cost me a lot of money to sort out?

what age is the car, my money would be on the brake balance control, easy fix, get under car, find it and lube it up

Hiya David its a 1999 Saxo VTR 90BHP model

Is the brake balance control easy to find and fix though?

hmm, not sure how it works on a VTR, it is easy to sort if it has a mechanical bias control, just needs a clean and WD40, others, who actually had to do this, will be able to give better guidance!

cheers David thanks for having a look any way mate

No probs, if it is the balance control (and I'm thinking it will be) it really is just a case of freeing it up. also check the tryre and pads to be sure they aren't fecked or low on presure

yeah tyres and pads are fine just had a service on it, although i must admit i vary rarely use the car these days and its been sitting there for 3 weeks on the driveway while ive been on holiday, so im wondering if it is something that is seized....

    bias control

COuld be a caliper, in which case take it appart and lube that up

things is ill have to take it into a garage as i dont mind tinkering about with cars but as its the brakes i dont trust me self lol

most likely caliper if its just one side, my rear right has started doing it this weekend but dont have time to wip it off and either change it or wind it the piston in and out and try to free it up.

Funnily enough same caliper seized up on my vtr, just changed the caliper back then but with winter coming in i hope i cna free it up til the nicer weather comes roudn again then change it

thanks for the info Scott will see if i can get a friend who knows how to take the caliper off and see if i can sort this out. Do u know if its an expensive job to take it to a garage?

    thanks again David

has the car been lowered? its most prob the bias control if it has as it thinks there is more weight in the rear so applies more braking to the back which causes the back to lock up first
  16. #16
I had same prob with my vtr same yr as urs and model, mine was the bias controller cos like Hush says wen u lower the bak it thinks there more weight, this should not cost too much to sort if you get someone who knows what there doin, i used to go into junction sidewards too cos the bak breaks used to lock.

Also if caliper seized new calipers expensive but as David says try lube 1st etc, I understand u dont wanna tamper with ur breaks tho ;-)

hiya guys sorry for the late response, the cars not been lowered at all its a completly bog standard Saxo VTR. Would you guys still think it might be the brake bias if its a standard VTR ?
  18. #18
I would still get it checked because it may have been nocked or siezed

    cheers Bloz :o)

would u say its best to take it to a Citreon Main Dealer? Or is the brake Bias easy to find for a back street mechanic?
