does anyone know a rough price of gettin my vtr's tailgate smoothed, sprayed and an opening device fitted? also a price of getting 17's fitted to it with it been lowered 60mm? any help would be great!!! plus does anyone know what simo has had done to his vts to get it to make that rasping kinda sound and can it be done to a vtr????
  2. #2
that wouldn't be the turbo your talking about is it? they can be done to a vtr too.
  3. #3
do u no a rough price for one on a vtr and the increase in bhp??? plus with puttin 17's on the car will that affect the speedo??? if so wot price wud i be lookin at to get it sorted???
  4. #4
Yeah the 17"s will affect the speedo quite a bit. I think you can get it sorted but not sure of the cost. I heard somewhere in the region of 145bhp but not sure about the cost. Get on to the site below as they offer turbo conversion but they dont show it on the site so you may have to e-mail them or phone them.

    http://www.pug-performance.com/pug-106-tuning.htm

I know its a peugeot site but they do saxo's as well as they are joint with citperformance i believe. If you want ultimate power though you might be best opting for a vts conversion as well. That way you'll be able to hit the 200 brake mark eventually, and thats without nitrous.

cheers mate!!! also whats ur opinion on an FSE power boost valve? ive heard they can fuck the engine??? what kinda power increase would one give?
  6. #6
It won't fuck your engine. Don't know where you heard that from but thats rubbish. Ive never fitted one and i've heard mixed views on them. If combined with induction kit and a full exhaust system i would guess at ab0ut 5 bhp extra.

thanks mate big help! ive got a pipercross induction kit but only have a back box fitted to the car! i heard that from one of my mates as he's a mechanic and said he had one on a cav SRI and it fucked the engine!!! nevermind!!!!!

anyway what engine mods could i get for 200-500 quid????or wud it be better gettin a vts lump?

I would spend that money on a full exhaust system including a sports CAT. They are better to use than de-cat pipes because it does allow better air flow but also retains the legal limit for fuel emissions. go to:

    http://www.milltek.co.uk/catalyst.html

they do sports cats and full systems. Not sure about he price though. If you can't get one in that price range then you can get the de-cat pipe if you want to risk the failing of the MOT.

Definately get a full system though, any brand name should be a quality product, such as scorpion or milltek(also do a dual exit system).

As you have an induction kit i would spend the rest pof the money on set of kent cams or piper cams. This should see you at about 115-120bhp on a MK2 VTR, 100bhp standard or 105-110bhp on a mk1 vtr, 90 bhp as standard.

Also when fnuds allow your next mod to tie it all together be a chip. You'll then see 130bhp/120bhp or so i would think.

Im going for the VTS conversion in a couple of months hopefully as funds allow. Its upto you really, if you have a MK1 VTR then i definately would or if you have done many mods yet then it may be cheaper to sell the car and buy a VTS. When tuning the vts you will see even better power gains than on the vtr. let me no what you do

I've got a mk 1 VTR but its on finance which was a big mistake when coming to moddin the car as i have to think bout paying for it 2!!! for exhaust's i want a custom one made by powerflow or free flow!i no that wud be expensive but i can save!!! with engine mods i was looking at the turbo conversions but there a bit pricey!!!! something for the future i think!!! how much wud it be 4 a vts conversion???? i was thinking bout a chip but have heard mixed reviews on them!!! ive heard the dastek chip is good?? wud that be the best choice??? ive done a few mods like having it lowered 60mm,clear rear lights, meshed the grille, fuel cap etc just little things 1st!!! i aint sure weather to go for wheels next or concentrate on the performance side of things???

with getting new cams how much wud it be to have them fitted? have u got a mk 1 vtr or a mk 2??if so wot engine mods have u got?? are there any cheaper turbo conversions out there????

thank for the help mate its been really helpful!!!! though it may take a while for some of the mods to happen as funds wont be that good till march!!!!

yeh that makes sense, i'll be getting a custom exhaust too so there's no point wasting money on a full system. The VTS conversion with pugperformance/citperformance is £1500. How much was the turbo conversion?

I dont know which chip is best but they are mainly to tie the other mods together to get the most from them.

Having your car on finance means you'll not be able to sell your car till you've paid it off so it's probably best to get the conversion rather than sell it. I know i'm not the most patient person when it comes to moddin' so thats what i'll be doing.

I tihnk you should go for the wheels next.My opinion has always been that the wheels are the 'Modifying Licence'. Meaning they should be the first mod on any car. Not that you have to go and buy huge hoops for your first set. 15's will still look good.

Fitting costs could be anything upto £100. Get a few quote's from garages before you purchase them though.

I don't have a VTR so geting the conversion will be an easier choice for me. I only have have a 1.1i mk2. Don't therefore have any performance mods except a backbox which suonds and looks great but i doubt would even give me 1 BHP.

Externally i have 15's, aluminium aerial, Lexus lights, Meshed front grille and soon to have it lowered. Hopefully be gettnig a full time job soon so il have loadsa more money for mods.

As for cheaper turbo conversion yeh maybe but you get what you pay for when it comes to cars, and with something as important as an turbo i would save up and stick with the reputable companies.

I didnt no a VTS conversion was that expensive think i'd rather save and get a turbo conversion!!!! The turbo conversion I saw was bout 3,500 and it came with the turbo, intercooler, dump valve and loads more things but cant remember!!!! I'd love a dump valve on the car as i think they sound great!!!! its just a shame they dont make them for non turbo'd cars!!!!

I wasnt thinking bout sellin it as i want to mod it a fair bit!!!! I'm the same when it comes to mods when I see what i want i have to have it!!!!

With the wheels I think if im goin to get some i may as well get some big ones while im at it!!! so 17's will do!!!

Yeah i only have a back box and a pipercross induction kit which together both sound great but a custom exhaust will sound better as u can have it sound as u want it!!!

With the turbo i guess ur right with gettin what u pay for but like u i'm inpatient and want one asap!!!! I hate having to save for things!!!!

I want other exterior mods aswell such as having the tailgate smoothed, have already had it de-locked, not too bothered bout a bodykit at the moment, want a huge rear spoiler like the ecosse one for a 205 plus a single wiper conversion and the bumpers and rub strips colour coded!!!!
  12. #12
yeh i've got similar ideas. I actually quite like the dimma spoiler so i think i will go with that. You'll have to get some pics on the site when you get it all done.
  13. #13
yeah i'll try! i just hope my funds allow me to do it all rather quickly!!!!

I was on the dp motorsport site yest'day and i think the turbo conversion takes a while to be done and fitted!!! i was on 1 site and a guy had his VTR done and dp had it for over a month!!!! didnt no it took that long!!!

do u no of any saxo cruises that are happening any time after march???? I have trouble with goin to cruises as none of my mates are into the whole car moddin' scene so i dont have any mates to go with and would probably look quite sad goin on my own!!!! therefore i miss out on car events etc!!!!
  14. #14
lol! join the club. Im in exactly the same situation, none of my mates are into modifying or go to cruises or anything so i have never been to one.

I think the month long one must have been when they were first developing the turbo conversion. It can't tak a month to fit surely.
  15. #15
hopefully not but im sure it wud be worth the wait!!!! Its shit not goin to cruises etc as u just feel as tho ur missing out on loadsa fun!!!!

lets just hope something changes soon!!!

Im also wanting to change the steering wheel but in doing that am i goin to loose the airbag??or can u get them that accomaodate the airbag?
  16. #16
You will lose the airbag on most steering wheels but you can actually get aftermarket steering wheels that have an airbag, but they look just as bad as the originals and cost more than a normal steering wheel.

The trouble with losing the steering wheel is that the airbag symbol comes on permanently in the dash and thats and MOT fail. You have to get arond that, plus its quite hard to get the airbag out i think and also you have to alert your insurers that the cars standard safety equipment has been removed.

Although i can't see why that should affect your premium because its not going to do anymore damage to the car. Where abouts are you from?
  17. #17
I'm from Middlesbrough but am currently living in Sydney Australia and I aint home till march! therefore no funds until i get home!!! Its shite over here and i really miss the VTR!!

the car moddin' scene over here aint as big as home but there are a few nice cars around! everyone here has either got a 200sx, skyline, supra or a scooby!!! There aint many other nice motors around here!!!

Ok with the steering wheel i guess i'll jus leave it as the standard one aint that bad for now!!!!!

Where bouts u from? Im guessing essex!? lol
