Small black sender on rocker cover bolt??

   Tile meant to say "sensor"
   
   took my rocker cover off the other day to paint it and the bolt on the right has a small black box attached to it, with one wire coming out of it that goes into a wiring loom, snapped off.
   
   what is it, what does it do?
   
   my MPG has reduced over the past month, could it be to do with this??
   
   any help would be appriciated.

   i may be wrong but i think its something to do with the coilpak

   its a interfearance suppressor stops the radio from wining with the reves an has no affect other tahn the radio
