Wat wit a loomin MoT Im gona do my brakes on the VTS, Im lookin for somethin better than standard but not sure if uprated disc's are a waste of money? Goin for uprated pads but discs still not sure.

Im lookin at either OMP or Green Stuff Pads front & back.

Wat are you lot runnin brake setup wise?

    Thanks

Ayup mine also cuming up to mot so ive bought black diamond predator pads for front and back and black diamond cross drill discs.
VTS standard brakes are still just as good as any other makes really wont see much more difference but its another mod to add to the list.

    306 gti6 front brake upgrade, 283mm discs

xsara vts front brake up grade 283mm discs

    206 gti - 266mm discs

    those fit under 14s

    Ok that sounds good

so with 283mm 306GTi & Xsara VTS discs do u keep the standard Saxo VTS Callipers? and is it just take Saxo discs off put 283mm on?

As its a VTS anyway its runnin 15" VTS rims still

hes referring to a gti setup which includes callipers, carriers, discs
you can put 283mm discs on a standard caliper but you will need a spacer kit to make the caliper sit further away. the whole disc would not be used though.
your best bet is to get one of the above kits. changing standard size discs is a waste of money imo. prob work out quite a similar price anyways

you can do both, you can put on the 283mm discs and use a spacer to space the standard saxo calipers out, or just fit the whole 306 set up- calipers, carriers, discs and pads. but the 306 carrier needs grinding to fit properly.

Go the full hog and stick some 6 pots on there!
    Attachment 2197
Failing that the black diamon set up I had on a previous car was way better than the standard

When uprating to multi piston brakes look at the cost of replacing the pads and the disks. 6 pots aint cheap, hi spec 4 pots are reasonable though. Mine have seen action on many a trackday and even when low on pads on the nordschliefe they were absolutely bang on. 500quid but the best mod I've made

I'll agree! My pads are just over £100 for the front axle set!

That's not the worst bit - the replacement rotors are £250+ !!!!!!!!!

If you're not running too mad an engine then the black diamond set up will be spot on for the price

There are a number of options when listed out:

    1. Standard products to match vehicle spec.
    2. Standard size discs BUT uprated compounds and pads (Black diamond, ebc etc for slight performance increase)
    3. Big disc kit like a 285mm kit retaining standard calipers (hi Spec, 306 GTi6, 206 GTi conversions) This will help with heat disipation and performance.
    4. Upgrade the size of the disc and the calipers for huge performance gains like (hi spec billet 4s, Tarox 6 pots)

Each option takes a price jump between upgrades from as little as £100 up to £1000 depending on what you want.

This would also depend what you use the car for as some options may not be enough if you use it for track day and some options may be overkills if you only use it a bit a week.

We are happy to help price up some ideas.

6 pots are overkill on a saxo imo.

Its all relative to the power the car is running.

If its running 180bhp with a turbo conversion then its going to hit the corners at higher speeds than a standard vtr/vts for example and require the larger breaks to brake later and get optimal performance.

If its a standard powered saxo then i would agree. But each set up depends on the situation.

Thank you for all your help, my VTS is only mildly tuned with Induction Kit, 421, Sports cat and cat back exhaust so anythin more than uprated replacement discs and Pads probally would be alittle OTT.

But more importantly is is a grooved or Drilled disc going to boost stopping power or just aid in heat disapation (non-fade) Not likely to take my VTS to the track so its just Fast road.

    :-) Thanks

i woudnt bother. a gti setup will not be far of the price. grooved and drilled discs are only needed when on track when your pushing it. if your not gonna change the size of the caliper or have bigger discs you wont hardly tell the difference. bigger discs will also look better.

Just ordered a set of Group N spec Maxtorq disc's front & back along with Goodridge S/S Brake Hose's from www.rallydesign.co.uk
All three items plus delivery came just over £100 so happy with that.
Was lookin at some grooved on eBay but they would have worked out about £10 more per axel so went with them.

Still lookin for pads, keepin with the standard disc size which pads are worth going for? Green Stuff? or something else
