overheating

#2take it out for longer
-
#3and that would fix it how?

simple really, the heater draws heat from the engine bay, so if the engine isn't hot then you don't get any warm air through the heaters!! you should have a temp gauge on the left hand side next to your speedo, when that starts to creep up then you should start to feel a bit more heat obviously the hotter the engine gets the hotter the air coming into the car gets! so......... if you "take it out for longer" then your car will heat up! sorted!
-
#5check your coolant level, if it's low/empty then you either have a burst radiator or hoses, heater matrix (no hot coolant=no heat) or head gasket failure. but of course take it for a longer dive and make sure it isnt just you being silly
-
#6lol, sean, you always beat me

s34mer - it doesnt draw it from the engine bay. it uses the warm coolant to heat the air. -
#7well we where driving for about 45 minites erlyer and the heater still would'nt work when we got back the fan was on for about 5/10 minites after the engine was turned off it does'nt have a temp gauge its a 1.1i sx 97 reg my brother had it for about 2 years and the never kicked in
-
#8check coolant level then, low coolant=problem as the coolant system is sealed so should never lose fluid. radiator is easy enough to diagnose, if you're not sure then get it pressure tested (2minute job), leaking heater matrix would have your interior carpet soaking.
-
#9coolant level is fine could it be any thing to do with the crack in my radiator cap could lose of pressure couse heater not to work and engine to get hot
-
#10nope if the crack was big enough to lose pressure then coolant would piss out of it. sounds like you could have a thermostat problem- ie it isn't opening thus not letting coolant flow around the engine, that would explain the coolant level being fine yet the engine still getting hot.
-
#11yeah so how do i check the thermostat dont i put it in a bowl of boiling water and see if it opens or some think? and if it is the thermostat thats broken take it thats what would be wrong with heater? could it also be to do with the system hasnt been flushed for over 2 years
-
#13defo sounds like the thermostat.if ur temp guage is reading normal temp but ur heaters is blowing out cold air you need a new thermostat, dont p**s abt checking to see if its openen or not,for the price of the thermostat jus change as 99.9 % of the time this is the cause of ur problem
-
#14going to citroen tomorow to get thermostat and cuple other parts the car hasnt been serviced for over 2 years about 20'000 miles ago what other parts should i get am going to flush the radiator whats the best way to do it heard i put a hose in the top hose and wait for just water to come out bottom do i do the same with engine?
-
#15got exactly the same problem, started last night but the light came on and off for me saying it was over heating
-
#16my light has'nt come on at all even though the fan is on 2 minites after driving
-
#17i am gonna fit a new thermostat wednesday and goin to fulsh the coolant system and these the 3 bleeding points
bleed 1 right?
" border="0" class="tcattdimglink" onload="NcodeImageResizer.createOn(this);" alt="" />
bleed 2 in red? and are the 2 yellow dots the bolts to get to the thermostat?
bleed 3 heater bleed?
