Panel Filter or Enclosed Kit

Whats best a panel filter or and Enclosed Kit....
I know that has probs been asked a load of times but could not find no real answer.
I don't want an open kit! Just maybe change the filter in standard airbox. or is it worth holding out till i can afford an enclosed kit?
Is there any power gains or noise gains from an aftermarket panel filter? and which is the best panel filter to go for.
    cheers

I asked the same question a few months dude... but I'm was more concerned with better MPG.

I opted for the panel filter - had to get mine custom made

you running a diesel? am not too fussed about mpg as long as it does not go down too much.... did you see any gains from your panel filter?

    No i have a veryon.
It's in my car... but i dont have my car so cant comment - will ask mr sayer later.

To be honest its a two-way thing. better breathing will improve both hp and mpg depending on driving behaviour... both types will improve breathing.

Panel filter is easier to fit. you dont have to start attacking the airbox and that. Think they are cheaper too.

Not sure which one is better though.

actually... the enclosed jobby will give a slightly better noise i think because the resonator box is removed.

ive got a bmc panel filter really good value only cost me £35 thats from halfrauds deffo recomend it for a cheap mod next tho is deffo a proper bmc

any gains from it? is it better than sticking a standard panel filter in?

standard filter is made of paper... get clogged up easier - thus pants engine performance

The replacement filter lasts ffffffffar longer - just need to clean it every now and again. And is made of different material (usually cotton) and offers less air flow restriction.

I say go custom lol, I bought a Uni air filter and made a custom one using Fogs lights as air feeds... But your choice

A panel filter will give slightly better performance but I feel it would be so little you woulnt notice a gain - but then again a panel filter only cost around £30ish pounds I think K&N, Green, Pipercross make replacement panel filters sim69er mention BMC make one so there is a quite a choice.

But IMO save your money a geta enclosed cone in a scoop its the next best thing to a BMC cold air feed filter. Check on eBay as there are some bargin enclosed filters on there at the moment. Ok

Y what bit of wat I said do you not agree with, Bullit?

Didnt see you rushing into give any advice to Stevey :-P

Panel fiter will give slightly better performance than standard, an induction kit will really improve things a bit more. BMC is ok
  14. #14
dont know if its the same with saxos but on ma dads scooby theres no point on going to induction kit unless your over 380bhp yor just better replacing the the airbox filter.
a changed my open pipercross to a bmc didnt feel much of a differnce in performance but there was less sound, but i got better mpg

Im not really a 'believer' in induction kits.
    hence why i went panel.

No one could offer me a reasoned scientific explanation of how induction kits offer any benefit. XCPT 4 A PHAT SOUND INNIT. and I cant see any benefits either.

Panel filters are cheaper and easier to fit - job done.

think al go get a panel filter..... cheers

    in ref to adsayer,

Over the years nearly every car mag has done dyno and road tests on induction kits.

Its true that a panel filter will offer better protection from heat and will get a good flow of air due to the fact its how the manufacture indented it to be. But it has been proven time and time that with a good supply of cold air an induction filter will allow the engine to rev more freely due to not being stuck inside a enclosed airbox there by increasing airflow and a slight increase in performance. The only problem is of course . . . Heat soak. Which is where a enclosed filter say a BMC or Ram air comes in because these offer the best of both worlds:

1st a larger surface are due the filter being cone shaped and not flat
2nd the filter is protected from the heat and feed by cold air direct from where ever.

These are the nearest things to a race car cold air box setup you can buy
