engine conversion info. VTR - GTI/VTS

Hi ive just bought my m8s 106gti engine of him and was wondering is the loom the same on the VTR as the VTS/GTI engine? and are the mounts the same? and how long should the conversion take?!

Any tips would be great. thanks!

it's a 1999 V Reg phase 2 grey rocker atm. Been wanting to put a VTS-GTI lump init for awhile. my engine fell out da other day "mount snapped" lol!! so kinda means i gota do it now

i put the VTR lump back in for time being as only snapped of 1 side, had to drill and tappet the old mount where bolts had sheered!

but yea back on topic! need info on how hard/easy the conversion would be and what would i need to do it!

Loom is different, best to get the loom, ECU and clocks as well for an easy life!

you dont need clocks at all.

for a plug and play conversion you'll need the vts single plug loom and a single plug 16v ecu. the 16v ecu engine mount would be better aswell.

i am geting the whole car of him as he wrote it of with struckter damage.

So i will have all the parts i need. incl ECU etc. will the 16V mount be on the GTI? that i can remove and add to my saxo? also whats different about the looms and how hard are they to install?

mount = yes you can swap.

you can use the gti loom but you'll have to do some wire choppage where it meets the fuse box, vts loom is a plug and play state of affair

mate you got the same problem as me when it comes to looms, depending on what type of loom you need is important.

you may need the single plug which is sorta looks like a tennis ball, or like me you need a 2 plug loom in the engine bay which i need! you can only get these from a 1999 vts T reg, but if its a tennis ball connector then past 1999 the loom connectors are single!

but if you do get a gti loom then you'll need the gti stalks and you'll need to do some rewiring, due to the electric windows in gti's being on the doors, electric mirrors and you'll have to cross over the wires on the rear lights.

p.s you'll need gti,vts drive shafts, fuel lines and depending maybe fuel pump/tank, raidator, fan system

That's ok ive got the whole car to take it of. however u sure u need 2 change the fuel line as it's the same bottom end?

I never changed the fuel lines on mine, the driveshafts or the clocks.

i diden't think you would of had to. as the VTR is bassickly a VTS with a crapper engine lol!

VTR engine is out of the car now. picking m8s GTI up tomorrow. going to have the GTI engine out be4 football then do rest after. will take pics and post them of the conversion

Anymore tips would be great. but i should be able to do it

was just looking over the gti engine and the Fuse box seems to be the same. i guess ill find out tomorrow! Hopfully be a stright forward swap

well i'm in from work 6am, going to my mates to help get the gti lump (which is mine) out of his car and ready to be put in mine. so good luck with your gti lump and i'll hope my is easy peasey. p.s mine car is a furio phase 2 so mines a little different story.

ah i see you will only have a fuel line for a 1.4 where mine is alrdy a 1.6.

Fuel lines on a 1.4 should be the same size as on the 1.6, unless the problem is the no return buisiness. Furio's are mpi aren't they?... if thats the case then the fuel pump should be fine as most cit/pug mpi fuel systems operate at 3bar

You should really get a mk1 vts loom or you will be chopping loads of wires and one mistake could fook it all. Use the gti as a last resort.

Fuel lines wont matter, but vts/gti fuel rail has a return on it just block it off somehow.

Drive shafts can be kept the same, same as gearbox and clocks etc etc. Just make sure you have all the earths right and make sure they have a good contact.

Im no expert on the unlocking ecu side but think you will need pick up ring immob box, igntion barrel and key.

Im pretty sure you can unplug ecu whilst engine running and it unlocks it for you aslong as when you plug it back in you have taken your immob box out. Dont quote me n this though

VTR engine out and GTI engine is half out. The Drive shafts causeing the problem geting the out really. As for the looms the GTI is the same! plug and play no problem. the only diff obviously is the wires that come from the ECU into the engine. but obviously u take the ECU over with you. Drive shafts are the same as well are the mounts. Fuel line is the same, same as the fuse box's and the starter motor switchs. engine will be fully done tomorrow hopfully. will update pics tomorrow!

Saxo and 106 looms are diffrent. Saxo has one plug to rest of loom ( near power steering pump ) 106 has 2?

, engine from mates car is out!

yes my friend has told me that i probally won't need fuel lines or pump as its mpi, but wasn't sure but will defo check it out asap!

but still cant find that sodding vts loom, tried asking bokers on ebay, but no sucess, i remember here somewhere somebody put a link where you can list an item you want and it'll e-mail all the brokers in your region and they'll mail you back, if someone gave me that link REP will be given!

well thats what your problem is like me! 2 plug on athe gti engine, i know for FACT! that a T reg VTS has 2 plug connection. but problem of finding one

i need a single plug loom from a vts! my m8 is comin over today to rewire it for me. Is the Egnition the same? or not?

Also i noticed on the single plug 1 of the plugs from the GTI fits it.. can i plug this 1 in and rewire the one that doesn't fit!?
