loss of power on saxo vtr..

  1. #1
hi ive had a k and n cone filter fitted for some time and it just doesnt feel as quick as when it was standard. is this due to the hot air from the engine? and also i used to hit 60 in 2nd and 90 in 3rd and so on but i think ive lost 10 mph in each gear also i cant hit the rev limiter anymore it just goes flat. is there anything i can do?

air filter was for a mk1 saxo vtr but fits fine on my mk2 vtr

Not sure you can hit 60 mph in second mate there has been a long discussion in these forums about that lol. Have you tried puttin the standard filter back on?? Then seeing if you experience the same problems.
    Keep us informed

about time we had a 60 in 2nd thread its been a good couple of days now...

Yeah the induction kit isnt doing you any favours. what you need to do is pop open the bonnet, and launch the 'filter' into the nearest bin.

LOL maybe your just getting used to it now?

or was expecting gains from the filter.

hmm i still disagree i know for a fact in 2nd gear i can hit 60 but thats with hit hitting the rev limiter lol but thats not the main issue.

well it only cost me 50 off ebay so im not that bothered plus it makes way to much noise when u out ur foot down dont get me wrong i did enjoy it but i actually want something that i will notice the performance.

I guess you could say ive got used to it but i didnt know what to expect it certainly wasnt a drop in performance knew it would sound better hoped it would rev faster really

thanks for your help much better than using a search engine lol.

Also anybody know where i could buy a citreon saxo vtr mk2 black lol passenger door from?

thanks again im off to bed!

just cos the speedo says 60 doesent mean you are doing it, saxo speedos are inaccurate. you will probably be doing 54-55.
  8. #8
dont worry. it doesnt matter what, there will be some pillock ready to tell you a standard vtr will do 60 in 2nd.
  9. #9
you might think you are doing 60 in 2nd but you arnt really maybe 50mph -55mph but not 60mph if you car says its doing 30mph it only really doing 27mph-29mph so do the maths all cars on the road today say they are doing more than what they really are

you pay for what you get spend some more $$$$$$$$
and you will get better perfermonce go for bmc or greenor even viper

so does that mean in 4th you getting to 120mph and in 5th 150mph do be silly

Sounds like your an intresting driver

heat soke is causing the filter to loose power. Bin it or move it to a better location.

your speedo is overreading (as they all do!) which is why it shows 60mph in second gear. You are actually doing about 56mph at the limiter IIRC. Unless of course you have bigger wheels on

Yes But In The Fact Of What The Speedo Says, Which Is The Best Way To Tell How Fast The Car Is Going It Fukin Rite, If A Copper Pulls U Over For Doin 38 In A 30 Zone, What U Gnna Say, Well In Modern Day Cars Officer The Speedos Are Rong, So I Was Only Doin 29-30mph, Shut Up, If U Put Bigger Wheels On Ur Car Or Smaller It Alter Your Speed, Put The Standard Wheels On And That Will Giv The Most Accurate Reedin Of Speed U Can Get, Unless You Got A Digital Speed Camera!

bet that took you ages to type using caps for every word

Yea, did you sleep last night sy_g?

Dunno Did It By Itsel!! Dnt No How I Did That, Magic

The question has nothing todo with the speedo. Its really about an air filter. No matter how much power you have a cars speed at a certain RPM is down to the gearbox and wheel size. Therefor a filter can't loose you MPH in each gear

well the coppers timing gera should be spot on so if your spedo saus 38 your prob doing 36ish as the higher the speed the bigger the diffrence between spedo and actual speed

Wrong that is isnt it? Ive got 16's with low profile on mine and They come out only slightly bigger than the standard wheels but it makes my speedo slightly more accurate. Not really noticeable mind.

Thats Not What Hjes Sayin, Hes Saying Possibly That His Filter Is Limiting His Speed, Which I Cant See, But Im Not A Mechanic, I Dnt Fink Putin A Filter On Will Stop U Gettin To A Top End Of Revs, But It May Do, I Dnt No, And It May Slow Your Car Down, Basically He Wants To No Y His Car Want Reach Op Revs, And Is Slowed Down, Start Anuva Thread About The Speedo Thing Or 60 In 2nd ( Which According To My Speedo In My Vtr It Does 60 In 2nd)
  23. #23
I Belive There Is A Way Of Working Out How False Your Speed Is By What Size Wheels U Have, Theres A Formula Dnt No It But There Is One
  24. #24
MY S goes off the clock in 2nd.
  25. #25
The Reading Will Be More Accurate (well I Should Imagine) Because Thats How The Car Was Made! So Im Only Geussing That The Manufacturer Will Have Got The Most Accurate Speed Reading To The Speedo,
  26. #26
That took me about half an hour to translate and all I got was "I don't know"

My speedo is 8mph out at 100, and continual through out so its 8% out.
  27. #27
I No Cant Make Sense Of It Misel, Can Think It It In Mi Head But Cant Type It, I Do No Tho There Is A Formula To Work Out Wheel To Speedo, Was On A Website Somewhere!!
  28. #28
Full stops and punctuation will help

There is a formula, Somer's posted it on the SSC a while back, I'll see if I can dig it out

No Worries Pal, Will Try, Never Been Good At English, Its Quite A Complicated Formula If I Remba Rightly
