Torsion bar

i have slight problem with my back wheels!? they sit at an angle when they should be straight. i had it up on a ramp this week and you can move the wheels back and forth!

has anyone else had this problem if so what could it be? my dad reckons its possibly the bearings and so does a citreon specialist. but it either that or the torsion bar hasn't been put back together correctly? its quite scary actually because of how far they do actually move! any ideas would be great!

bearings the torsion bar couldnt allow that kind of movement

rear arm bearings ! sounds like but with out seeing it on a ramp its hard to say.
we've had a few saxo's at work with rear bearings shoot and its amazing how much movement a knackered bearing could make
you better off getting a new rear arm off egay..
other than that its 70.50 ph labour and parts are about £40ish and citroen book time is 3hours for both i think

sorry tell a lie its 5.90 hours x 70.5ph almost £500 in labour

    get a new rear beam

its worn thru bearings and into the axle...weakening it...new beam mate

    rear arm bearing...

my driver side one went, it it cost me £150 at a citroen specialist for a replacement

thats strange cause its 3 hours each side you got a bargin

depends how far it's gone, if it's worn right into the bearing mounts then you're better off getting a new axle, same happened with mine and i just got an axle from a scrappy for £170.

cheers for the input. but has anyone actually worked on a saxo with this problem if so are there any special tools needed? (to keep the torsion bar under tension?) i'm not going to citreon as they are to exspensive my old man can do it as he's a mechanic but never come across one like this.

I agree, get shot of the whole beam and get one from a scrappy. Simple job to remove and re-fit. I had mine go on my old Pug 306, was gunna cost the earth to repair, so found a new-ish (front end damaged 306) at a scrap yard, got it supplied and fitted for £200. What happens if you repair it then t'other side goes?!
Save your old man the hassle! I hear the torsion beam is a dangerous thing anyway or is that an old wives tale, like how a swan can break your arm?

yea the place is a citroen specialist in bradford.. a great find really because they really know their stuff...

he said most places would charge about £300 in labour, but they do so many they can charge about half the price.

he said he usually gets about 5 a week JUST for the rear arm bearings stripped and replaced !

YES!....you will need a dummy shock to get the torsionbar the same height as it was before
a slide hammer to get the torsion bars out
ramp so you dont fuck your back up lol

tbo your better getting a rear arm im my honest opinion you could be faced with the same problem if you get a second hand rear arm but if you get a second hand 1 then fit new bearing you car wont be off the road too long
