alryt guys, quik question, iv bought sum 16's n i wondered if putting larger wheels on will affect the speedo, and if so by how much???

    cheers

Firstly, please don't use text talk. Takes twice as long to read it.

If you are putting 16s on, it's more than likely to make it more accurate.
  3. #3
    yup it'll be affected.

But its a combination of alloy size AND height of the sidewall of the tyre.

for instance 16's with a 35 profile would have a smaller rolling circumference than 15's on 45 profile. thus the speedo will be less accurate.

the amount goes out by the combination of alloy and profile selected.
as a general guide the saxo's are out by 6-10% (speedo reads higher than actual speed) as standard.

the smaller the rolling circumference the less accurate the speedo is, but with 16's we're only talking a couple of % difference
however 16's with a 45 profile make the speedo more accurate :Y:

If you tell me the tyres you are running then i can tell you how much of a change to expect.

ok, cheers, aslong as it doesnt read less than the speed im doing i dont care.

    woah!!!

    16's on a 1.1
I hope you dont intend actually driving it with those on.. it'll scrubb to the max.
you need like 4x4 tyres to get any where near the actual speed :Y:

to be on the safe side grab a gps sat nav jobby and check the speed on that.

Unless yours is a 5door there is going to be issues I believe.
My best advice is to Pm 'snewham'
he has a 1.1 and has 16's - he's your expert regarding this sort of thing.

    Back to the speedo
it wont make a massive difference mate... maybe 4% change MAX

it is a five door, whats difference? il av a chat wi him, cheers for ur help

    ok here's the crack dude...

    I've put 15's on my 5-door
if you put 15's on a 3-door then there is some work needed to be done on the rear arch (how there is a difference I dont know!!! lol). So putting 16's on the 3-door is a proper ballache.

I'm convinced there is enough space to fit bigger wheels on mine i.e. 16's
There was a lad who had 16's on his 5-door too.

Its worth mentioning that... it's not the size thats the problem its the width of the alloys and tyres. Just so you know

    you should be alright
but i'd like to know what the outcome of this is so keep us posted mate

    on a 3-door it'll rub.
  13. #13
naa, it wont! not at all mate!
  14. #14
    check snewhams progress thread then...

anyway we've established its a 5-door so it wont scrubb

Im running 16s and when my speedo says 30mph my tom tom says 27mph so if you stick to the speed limits you will never be caught speeding!

ok go ot this site http://www.carbibles.com/tyre_bible.html then scroll down to A tyre size calculator.

put in the stardard wheel and tyres size and then put the wheel and tyrs size u want to put on, it will then tell u how much ur speedo will be out

    here is a pic
