180 sheets to lower my torsion bar on standard shocks?
    I think I smell rip-off!?
  2. #2
your senses are strong my child.
  3. #3
normally yeh i would tell them to take a poke at themselfs.

but there are very few garages willing to touch torsion bars now.

feel lucky uve managed to find a garage that will do it without any problems.

so yeh i would pay that.
  4. #4
really? Jeez; ill try and shop a bit more before i chuck nearly 200 smackers away
  5. #5
i know some one will lower the rear for just £70 but hes miles away from you
  6. #6
I know someone who will do it for £60 but he's also miles away from you.
  7. #7
    pfft
  8. #8
It might be worth s drive if £180 is the cheapest you can get.
  9. #9
i got my full kit fitted for less than that

  12. #12
where do these cheap lowerers habitate?
  13. #13

  14. #14
I got my whole car lowered for £60 i supplied the springs
  15. #15
what just torsion bar adjusted what about the front is that included in that 180 smackeroos??? id do it for less than that but again im far from you too
  16. #16
too steep just for the back. even if it was for the full car thats still a bit steep.
if you fancy a drive up to wakefield i will get it sorted for you.
  17. #17
The £60 is only for the torsion bar for anyone whore cares the front is easy enough to do yourself.

    not for all people
  19. #19
I'm no mechanic but I'm sure the majority of people if they actually looked could remove the front struts, then just pop it into a garage to have the springs changed as that would be cheaper than buying compressors.
  20. #20
    true true
  21. #21
na compressors from halfrads is only 30 odd dollar not to expecive but i suppose if your only ever gona use it once theres not much point
  22. #22
My advice would be dont buy them for halfords you can get them a lot cheaper than £30.
  23. #23
my advice would be buy a decent set then lower a few more cars round your way then they will have paid for themselves and you'll be a couple of quid up aswell

i've got a really good mechanic that does torsion bars very cheap but i'm even further away from you than the rest, more and more garages do tend to charge stupidly high prices for working on torsion bars now becasue of the amount of time it takes to free them off
  24. #24
had mine done for £100... springs and torsion bar.

£170 seems a bit high, but if its seized it will probably be a bargain !
  25. #25
Mine was seized and still got charged £60 I believe I have found the chepeast torsion bar lowerer in the world.

    MWAHAHHA

obviously its more to buy them but is it anymore expensive to fit coilovers? is there extra fkin around to get 'em right
  30. #30
does anybody know anywhere in or around Liverpool where I can get my torsion bars lowered?
  31. #31
There shouldn't be any difficulties fitting coilovers to standard struts, I had problems getting my compressors onto the springs but soon solved that problem with the angle grinder.

I had did have some pretty rough coilovers though so if there brand new should face no problems.
  32. #32
The garage in Chelmsford where I got mine done said they'd lower the whole car for £70 if i bought the springs, they also did me mates aswell!
  33. #33
done my front spring with a leather belt as i had no compressors when i fixed a topmount

best off to take it to a garage instead of buyin compressors if u aint gon use em agen

as for the torsion bar theres a few places round here that do it cheap maybe worth a drive for ya

  36. #36
How do they know its seized though?
  37. #37

If they haven't even looked at it then they would have no chance of knowing if it is actually seized.

    £180 is a stupid price.
  39. #39
well i didn't know that did i!!! but you will find that bout 90% of them are siezed though!
  40. #40
I agree that the majority will be seized but even if it is seized £180 is still over the odds.

Rushy recommended me a place to would lower the torsion bar and service the rear beam for £140.

That was a proper company not a friend of a friend.
  41. #41
yeah thats a wicked price! as someone else said, your lucky if you can find a place now-a-days that will touch torsion bars!
  42. #42
If they've provided you a (written) quote then they have to stick to that but as some people have said, a lot of the times, the torsion bars are siezed and so the garage would like to see it before quoting. There are also other things that will have an effect on the price and that is if you need new droplinks, etc...

But... to start with a base price of £180 is ridiculous in my opinion. If the torsion bar's siezed and you need to replace both drop links, you'll be talking about £250-£300.
  43. #43
karl... me, nick and mike will attempt it!! wont take long!!
  44. #44
kkk go go; we'll try it this weekend if poss

actually robb it was damo lol.

I might go to him if its siezed which it probabley will be.
  47. #47
damo told me, and puzzled PM'd me if i remember correctly...

graeme is a top man, haven't seen him in a while...
  48. #48
I'm about to lower mine and the only thing i dont wanna touch it the torsion bar, i know a buy at Citroen is gonna do it for me for 50 bucks, sounds like a lot of you pay over the odds
  49. #49
Jesus; how often is the torsion bar seized?
  50. #50
Almost always, hence, no one wants to touch it, from what i heard its a very painstaking process also.
  51. #51
    balls :/
    doesnt sound too promising :/
