4-2-1 manifolds help more lower down in the rev range, the 4-1 design helps more higher up the rev range. if you are going for cams then i would say a 4-1 design as it will assist the cams better at higher revs when the cams come into play. i have jsut purchased a raceland stainless steel 4-2-1 design as there only £169 brand new, you can get manifolds slightly cheaper if you look on ebay.

as i said because you will be camming i would recomend you get a 4-1, GMC do one for £214 which can be purchased from http://www.gsmotorsport.com/

    hope this helps

    from my experiance:
    sportex - utter SHIT
GMC - no problems at all

My supersprint was 4-2-1 and was very good. Some people recommend gmc, supersprint or raceland, would be gmc or supersprint for me.

better off going for a 4-2-1 on a vts arent you?

i've had a supersprint on mine and it was good also heard very good things about these raceland ones and they are supposed to be reasonably priced aswell

I would of thought on a VTS you would want to improve the gains/torque lower down the rev range.

As we know a VTS comes to life between 4000rpm to 7000rpm (ish).

I would of thought you would want to improve more low down the rev range. Or do you lose torque at the top with a 4-1?

I went for the Raceland 421 as I thought it made more sense to gain some power lower down the revs.

Its really well made and looks great.

    4-2-1 in a VTS old pal !

Give it a bit more grunt lower down in the revs like the 8v engines
  9. #9
why do you want the power lower down? whenver your giving it some your high in the revs, then when you cam it it will move the power even further up.
  10. #10
id go for a gmc one matt as i have said over msn

the vts has got plenty of go after 4k. but compared to the 8v engine it's pretty flat low down... be nice to have a bit more torque low down then you know it's got the grunt higher up too
  12. #12
why though? when do you need low down power?
make the best of what it has.
  13. #13
how is it flat low down? it pulls the same as the vtr till 4k then pull even harder.

I agree the gmc 4into1 is the best. It is more about what you want it to do. The stanard man is restricive so be fitting a 4 branch you allow the exhaust gases to flow better. If you are going for more than 160bhp you need larger bore pipe 2.5ins throughout exhaust cycle.

agree with williams on this. VTR and VTS torque curves are the same till 4k, then the vts one keeps on rising to about 5.5k.

When driving 'spititedly' or on track when will you go below 4k? Never - So why would you want better low down?

im sure day to day life consists of track raceing now?
  17. #17
No but on the road i just pootle about like a granny. So i dont need a for a torquey engine.
  18. #18
as steve said at the top, if cams are on the way i'd go for a 4-1 but if not??? the only other option is the 4-2-1 which are also cheaper i think!
  19. #19
why why why? do you always floor it to 4k? no, so why don't you want to make the best of what you have?

thats for a 421 manifold isnt it? im gona go for cams, so il go for the 4-1 manifold
  24. #24
go for gmc maybe we can get 2 for 1
  25. #25
    you raggy boro scum bag
  26. #26
matt a 4-1 is better top end but between what revs is it better? and between what revs is a 4-2-1 better? its alright to say go 4-1 for better top end but when does does this help more. prob revving to 8000-9000 revs.
  27. #27
right so we've worked out i dont have a clue about them, now i dont know which one to get!
  28. #28
421 there aint that much difference in em! id rather have the 4-2-1. when people try it on with you your not allways sat above 4000rpm most of the time you will be sat at about 2500 in 3rd or 2nd or just pulling off at the lights. what ya gonna do? drop it down a gear so that your above 4000rpm!? yer right, ya just put your foot down till you pull through the revvs so 4-2-1 is the best for me! id go 4-1 on a track day car but you want good lowdown for when driving around town n stuff. i went supersprint 4-2-1

from what ive heard mate go 4-1 to assist the cams as they bring the peak performace higher up the rev range
