offset & wheel size

Hi saxo owners, just venturing over from the 200sx forum..... I'm after a bit of alloy advice for a mate who's just got herself a 1.1 saxo (4 stud).

You probably get 'will these wheels fit' questions everyday, so sorry but searching didn't seem to help.

It seems some people have rubbing issues with 15s. Is it the fact they stick out too far or are just too big?

If they stick out too far, then couldn't this be cured with a higher offset?

If they're too big, then what tyre sizes are people using? A 185/60/14 has a 1cm bigger radius than a 195/45/15 so going to 14s isn't going to help?

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

On the flat archmodels like your friends 1.1 there is a metal lip that sticks out on the outer part of the arch on the back. This causes the rubbing however its easily dealt with by either cutting it off or bending it upwards out of the way.

I've grinded mine.....a lot, like to the beginning of the lip. Takes forever but worth it. It only rubs now with either two peeps in the back over a big bump. Or three peeps in the back over a slightly not so big bump.

That's on 185/55/R15. It's a bugger but I'll live with it, and it passed it's MOT so it's good. You may also notice on full lock it rubs on the inner plastic guard on the front wheels. I just live with that to.

Great, cheers for the info. Looks like it grind/roll or standard alloys.

I'll have a closer look at her car and see what she thinks about me taking an angle grinder to it!
