Exhausts/Silencers

  1. #1
Hi guys, i had a sportex dual exit backbox put on the other week, and its got a really deep tone but only if i boot it, i want to make it a bit louder so what do i do, My step dad has tried to put me off tho as he is a mechanic, hates loud exhausts and dont want me to wake him up at night!

    Do I:

    1. Get a new centre section made to fit the manifold and backbox?
    2. Have the centre silencer cut out of the original pipe and a piece of straight through pipe welded over?
    3. Or am i a tosser for wanting a loud exhaust? lol

get a straight through centre section mate
  3. #3
Decat it if its not already done and remove the silencer.

Strip out your interior too that'll send the noise levels up a few db's on the inside

A centre section will make it quieter mate...

Hang on? Do u have a centre section on? so why put a new one on?

Louder = straight through D-cat mate!

Mine sounds like an M3, just power power power.... but not a horrible droan like a nova with a scaffold pole hanging out the arse end!

get a centre section off a westcoast or off a 1.5 diesel saxo they have no silencers in the amd will fit straight onto your sportex backbox, i think the diesel 1 is a bit of a bigger bore too and it will cost you next to nothing from a scrappy

Take centre section and Cat off it mate, more power and it'll be alot louder!

Or just put a massive hole in ya back box...

that'll be loud, TBH mate i would leave as is, mines quiet until u boot it, which is the way i like it!

Thought about an induction? Gives the engine that bit more throat!

go open filter if you havnt already too

I have thought about an induction want to get my exhaust sounding spunky at the mo, L1UKEVTR thats interesting cheers mate!

About getting a new centre pipe my step dad said it was a lot of hassle bending the standard centre section to fit the backboxes, which i s why i thought about cutting the centre either side of the silencer box and welding a bit of pipe over the gap between the two halfs (bit cowboy tho!)

It sounds deep when i get to 3 thousand or so, but iv found myself driving in the lower gears (2&3) so i can here it roar which isnt good!

    Cheers Guys Levi

Got the standard ait filter (new one is second on my list after a dimma spoiler!) want my exhaust roaring first!
  11. #11
with an induciton kit mate or just an open filter it will roar all the way up the rev range even more, get a new manifold too as that will decat it, think saxo180 is sellin 1 for 60 quid i was gonan have it off him but im sellin my car now

thats the best way to make it louder, did you not just fit the sportex backbox to the standard joint ?
  12. #12
The sportex is fitted to the standard system yeh but as its a dual, the first box was a bit out which made the second one way out etc, so the centre pipe had to be modified (the bends) to meet the backbox correctly...

Was a ball ache, yeh a new manifold and centre section sound good!

just try a new filter first mate believe me it will make loads of difference, and save you money
