Is Nitrous Oxide 'cheating?' i don't think it is but this should make an interesting topic!
Is Nitrous Cheating?
-
#1
-
#2no....
-
#3No, its just another form of achieving better combustion.
-
#4yes
explained in other thread -
#5Ask any racer it doesnt matter if you win by an inch or a mile.....winning is winning
-
#6I'll have nitrous when the engines running properly and I'm not a cheat!
It's just another way of complimenting the other mods -
#7I'm saying yes, I feel cheated when someone claims they have a 1000bhp car then half of that is made up of nitrous, which really means the car is only a 1000bhp for around a 2 minutes if he's turned it on.
The cheating bastards. -
#9We agree on a lots of things lately Mr Hessle.Quote:
finally someone who agrees -
#11Why thank you Sir Hessle, I'll try to keep up the good work now that I have your blessing.
-
#13Yes it bloody is.
-
#14i say no, claiming masive power figures with bucket loads of gas is a bit shit but having it there to aid your power on the road is not a problem
but then ive got a 150bhp direct port kit -
#15yes its cheating, also you have to re fill it when you use it. So you dont continually have that 1000bhp on tap. Cheating yes, but cool none the less to boost your 300 bhp car to some rediculour power.
-
#16So what you guys are saying is that you use your cars full power all the time???
Most of the time your car is putting out about 30-40 bhp for normal driving.
Why is No2 cheating??? Elaborate -
#17its been covered in this thread and the 1 last week
-
#18I don't think it is.
In Drag Racing, you are allowed 3 different types of power adder: Turbo, Supercharger or Nitrous.
Nitrous is cheaper than the others.
Again if you use it with a turbo, it cools down the inlet charge even more.
People are gonna be saying that water injection is cheating next. -
#19I'd rather have a turbo or Supercharger over nitrous any day of the week.
-
#21Nah dont think it is really, we can all do it if we want.
Agree its just another mod... -
#22so if i run the ax with turbo NOS and WI i would be classed as a cheat?
-
#23Cheating at what though?
-
#24It's just like saying "Is adding an exhaust or air filter cheating, or stripping out your car to make it faster cheating???"
They are all mods which are designed to make our cars go faster! -
#25To clarify my take on things.... I believe that its "cheating" for the above reason/sitution.Quote:
I'm saying yes, I feel cheated when someone claims they have a 1000bhp car then half of that is made up of nitrous, which really means the car is only a 1000bhp for around a 2 minutes if he's turned it on.
Its the temporary nature of it that I find to be the "cheating" aspect of it. -
#26agreed, i think its just another mod, although i do agree with ets2k9's point, when people claim silly amounts of power like saying i have a 300bhp saxo when really you have a 15obhp saxo and are packing a 150 shot in the back seat!
-
#27in that circumstance i agree, but thats the drivers fault for bigging his car up not the actual NOS itself...
-
#28EDIT* I cant be arsed anymore.
-
#30isnt it just like putting raceing fuel in instead of normal petrol tho??? or haveing a variable boost system for track or race days??
-
#31Thats a bloody good point!Quote:isnt it just like putting raceing fuel in instead of normal petrol tho??? or haveing a variable boost system for track or race days??
Some people have 2 boost stage by the flick of a switch.
My mums calibra has a winter mode and a sports mode on her auto.
But I do agree with ets2k9 about the 1000bhp thing with the gas on. -
#32no its not cheating i do agree with some of the points ie saying that you got a 1000bhp car but if it classed as cheating then so is every other mod that you put on your car next people will be saying that it cheating by putting v power in instead of 97 ron petrol.
-
#34I agree with you in that sense mate but consider this.
When the BHP is stated on any car this is always the max BHP at a given point. We are all told the Saxo VTS is 120bhp for example, yes it is 120BHP but only at a certain band of the rev range. Same goes for Torque I guess.
True NOS may only achieve 1000bhp for a few seconds but isnt that the same kind of theory for all cars power figures. A VTS isnt 120bhp from 0rpm to 7250rpm if you know what I mean.
Power in that sense is dependant on your power curve, nicer the curve the more even the power.
Sorry to go but just thought it made sense.
