17" wheels

  1. #1
hey everyone, i'm thinking of buying some wheels for my saxo westcoast '99 and woundered which would be best 16" wheels with 195/40/16 tyres or 17" wheels with 195/40/17.

Will the 17" wheels rub if i was to lower the car 30mm??
Will the 16" wheels rub if i was to lower the car 40mm??
    if these are possible !

Which wheels would be best to buy?

thanks in advance. any help appreciated. thanks lee

I personally prefer 16's. Daryl vtr has some on 40 profile i believe, he has it lowered 40mm at the front and 50mm for the back. HAd to have arch mods too!

my mate had 17's lowerd 40mm and it scrubbed like a beast so i wouldnt go for that! i'd stick with 15's or 16's really! better acceleration and they look nicer!

pretty much spot on, with smaller wheels you will get better acceleration, but less grip, and obviously with bigger wheels its the opposite! but i would have thought you may get some rubbing with the 16's at 40mm and you will deffo nedd arch work if you want 17's no doubt about it mate! have a search around for threads about 17" rims and there are loads of things to read about.

my saxo is lowered 40mm and i have 17'' and rubbing isnt the word for what it does if i have more thn 2 people in the car. id advise you from a personal point of view. not to go 17'' unless you intent have the arches rolled.

Lol yeah as above, ive got 17's and am down 40mm, anymore than 2 people and expect lots of rubbing, looks nice though

if Saxos were made for 17's; they woulda come with them as standard
I wouldnt go any bigger than 15's personally.
Daryls VTR with 16's is rather nice though.

If you fit 17's the best way to avoid scrubbage at the back is to strip out the rear seats so you can't carry any back seat passengers!

17's lowered 30mm will look like a 4x4. If you do fit 17s get some proper arch work done and drop it about 50-55mm

16s can still look sweet though with a subltle 30-40mm drop.

Oh and by the way 195/40r17 tyres will make your car feel like there are NO tyres on it at all! Be prepared

my car is lowered 35mm at front on 17s but you have to do allot of archwork to get them on.click on my user name and look at my car!!!

they look good but acceleration is sacrificed!!!

hey again, if i was to do everything in the haynes max power manual for a saxo, and lowered the car 60mm would there be any rubbing? and would it affect the steering lock ? and the power steering pipe ???

    thanks lee.

how low are you on the front with 17's ??

    thanks lee.

Im on 17's and mine is lowered 40mm front and back.. might get some rubbing at the front when turning to full lock, so you will need to get some arch mods done, without them it will fail the M.O.T.. The rear shold be ok..

If I had the chance again, I would get 16's and slam it 50 - 55mm

    Here's mine anyways..
