Lowering 40mm (+)'s and (-)'s

  1. #1
    Hey

Anyone with a 40mm drop help me???

Im thinking of a 40mm drop with just springs.

Can anyone tell me the good and bad side of this?

Will it be a hard ride feeling every bump & pothole!

Also, I normally have a car load of people or a boot full of stuff...
...Will there be any rubbing etc?

Its on 15"s and its just sitting WAY too high!!!

    Cheers all

The ride will become a little harsher when lowering the suspension, especially on just springs, a full kit is advisable, but you can get away with just springs at 40mm. Wouldn't go any lower considering you often have a full car.

Whether you get rubbing with a full car will
depend on what profile the tyres are.

40mm is a great height for optimum handling.

    Hope this helps.

I thoght u could only lower saxo's torsion bars by splines, and from what i worked out one spline is about 32-33mm, i didnt think you could lower it by half a spline (40mm)

You shouldnt lower your torsion bar using splines, that'll only cause problems later on.

And martin, ive lowered my car 40mm all round but on an upgraded suspension kit, my ride comfort hasnt changed from standard.
You'll be fine with a car full as i often have a full car and im running 16's on mine.

Lowering the car by splines is the wrong method, and can cause long term damage, as Andy said. The torsion bar should be lowered the correct way. This is an accurate way, and can be measured to the mm.

    Great help thanks

I keep reading about having too change the rear torsion bars too?

Is this essential and where can I get them?

Has anyone lowered on springs and NOT changed the bars?

You dont need to change the bars, you can change the rear dampers, but that's up to you and your budget.

I'm down 40 on a full kit (SPAX VSX) and 15's with 45 profile tyres. The ride and handling is fantastic. I'd never go lower than 40 tbh, any lower and things wear quicker and the ride turns to wank.

While it's being lowered why not uprate all the polybushes etc? Then it'll be EVEN better!

I haul all my shit up and down the country every 3 months and get no scrubbing, even fully loaded with fattys.

    Do it.
