Brakes

Sorry for my ignorance but i am wanting to put some upgraded brakes on my vtr, but am unsure as my dad keeps sayin by upgrading the brakes you'll be increasing the chances of locking up easier, as the brakes on the car at the moment were spiciffically designed to work along with the vtr's performance. Is this correct and could anyone shed some light on this matter as im totally clueless about it.

    Thank you

yes they will lock up. as with all brakes if you brake too hard. imo he wants you to leave your car alone.

its not that he wants me to leave my car alone, i think he just thinks that the brakes are only really your main way off stopping and if i change/alter them then it could cause more trouble thans its worth, either locking up to early or just crashing.

Dont know about locking up but tougher brakes definatly make it easier to skid especially without ABS.
VTRs dont come with ABS (i found it out the hard way) so can easily lock up in any situation under hard braking.

My ABS doesnt work currently on my GTi, with my new 4pots making the car skid and slide around is so much easier!

I thnk what your dad is saying is right in a way, but its most likely also due to the fact he doesnt want you to spend on them.

Just get some grooved discs and see how it goes?

i think i read on here that someone had put some citroen berlingo brake and calipers on and thats all i was considdering, nothing to fancy or expensive. my brother has a citroen berlingo and his brakes feel a lot more positive and responsive than mine.
