Lowering Woes

  1. #1
Car went in to be lowered today, 50mm front and 60mm back on SPAX PSX full suspension kit.

the garage have fitted front springs and dampers and rear dampers but the torsion bar is seized to fuck !!! (apparently)

I'm going to pick it up at 5, but I'd like your opinion.

They recommend getting a rear beam that has already been lowered. What do you think about this? apparently because it has uprated anti-roll bar and thicker torsion bar etc.

I'll put some pics up later but I'm not a happy bunny.

Give DarylVTR a pm he had some slight issues with this as ya know. Feck gettin a new torsion bar though thats not gonna be cheap. There are ways to unseize the bar, coke and WD40 is apprently very good for it.

But ya may be stuck with the dragster look for a while mate

You could try to free the torsion bar yourself?

I dont know if the lesser models have thinner torsion and ARBs but If you get a rear beam, you might want to think about getting one with rear disks too, would be a nice upgrade to your stopping power.

    dangerous for your street cred

As long as your not doing any hard driving you should be alright getting from A to B. It will affect the handeling and heavier braking.

You should get your tracking done again too. You'll need to be careful at this time of year though mate, winter months are a bad time to have upset suspension!

yeh thats what I was thinking, got 12 hours of driving to do at the weekend cause of the xmas party as well.

I might try and get the torsion bar loose myself but I hardly know what I'm doing tbh.

If your not comfortable doing it then its probably not worth the worry, but theres a few things you could try (soaking it in WD-40 & coke mixture etc)

I think your best to keep driving to a minimum till its sorted but im sure a few people have had to drive like this before.

Cant u get access to another car for runing errands & you xmas party trip etc?

We managed to get the torsion bar unstuck slightly and lowered the rear only 30mm. I'm gonna try and loosen it off then it's going down 60mm at the back

then in january im getting the new rear beam

However, they had still managed to lower the rear by about 20mm? or there or there about.
If the bars are seized it cannot be lowered/higher or anything?

yeah I think they were just talking rubbish to be honest because if you can lower it at all at the rear then you should be able to lower it to any amount you want. However, that could have something to do with the rubbish ride at the rear. But I'll see what they say tomorrow.

Ive been told to soak your torsion bar in wd40 the night before it goes in the garage, this info maybe a bit too late though, but you could try it and let it soak in for a night then do it the next day.

heat the twat up with acetelene torch or blow torch then pull it out that uldo it, to be honest mate if they cant un sieze it they are most likely not up to the job id go sum where else and make sure u only pay 50 quid or there bouts to the gargae that have fittedf the front springs and rear dampers (rear takes 5 mins)
