Slight Knocking..

  1. #1
I'm pretty sure I am getting a knocking on my driver's side steering.

It usually happens when I have full lock right, reversing into my drive. As soon as I reverse back, I take off full lock and it goes 'CLUNK'. There is NO play in the steering and no other weird noises.

Any ideas? It happens quite rarely but it's beginning to annoy me.

    Thanks in advance.

Sounds like the steering rack mate. Mine does the same. The ball joints in the middle might be worn but if there's no play in the steering wheel then you're fine and it will still pass an MOT.

possibly the droplink, quite common on the saxo.

mine had it and found my drop link was fooked infact it snapped in end and hasnt made the clunk since

Surely it'd be a droplink if the car was in motion as in driving and going over bumps?

You wouldn't necessarily get a knock/clonk through the steering wheel either would you!?!

hmmm if it has snapped off then thats a bit worrying mate lol

i think my drop link is shagged-out too....

i get a clunk from the front driver-side...dont think its the wish bone

I do hear it sometimes when I go over speedbump.

Could it be the droplinks then?

I think I know which bit you mean Paul.

Again though, will be next weekend before I can check it if it means taking the wheel off.

Well it needs to go back there because of the warranty, so I'll make sure the job is done correctly.

Something else you could check could be the lower arms... Jack the car up and push the wheel from side to side and top to bottom to see if there's any play in it.
