cleaning air filter

   i have a piper cross open air filter had it fitted on car for about 11month how often do ya have to clean them as a normal filter is changed when a car is serviced have the stuff to clean it with but which is the best way to clean it

   i did mine every 6 months, with it being open, its exposed to more shit! spray the cleaner on then, give it a rub with a cloth, then spray more cleaner on and leave it mate!

   do you guys never take them off completely and clean oil and crap from the inside??
