Smoothing the panels into bodywork..

  1. #1
Hi, i have a few questions to do with smooting the arches and door panels into the bodywork.. you see my dad owns a bodyshop so i have no problems with tools and equipment etc.. i was just wondering what is the proccess to doing this.. do we just add filler to it and then prepair and prime it and paint or is there any more advanced things we nned to know about..

because my dad said to me he thought that it would usually just crack..?

also while anyone is reading this..

if i wanted to fit 18's on my saxo, i kbnow you have to cut them for 17's but do i hjave to cut more for 18's to fit..

    thanks

there will be a big chance it cracks could use fibreglass then filler
not sure if anyone has done it on here i know people have thought of but soon as they here it will crack and the price of having it done dont do it

yeah you will need to cut more away for 18s and may need to re locate fuel filler neck depending on width of wheel

Lot of work involved in smoothing the pannels into the body.

If you want to save a couple of days I'll have a pair of doors soon which have had the pannels smoothed in.

It would be a lot easier and more cost effective if you were to buy and spray a smooth kit.

If your intending to run low profile tyres on big wheels and firm up the suspension then prepare yourself for about a years worth of driving before signs of cracking apear. A close friend had a Mk2 Fiesta fitted with a Fibre Glass XR2 kit blended in to bodywork looked really nice too, but only lasted about 18monthes before the rears started to crack he ended up cuttin his loss's and selling the car.

If it cracks it will need to go back to the body shop as repairs to smoothed kits and such is a job for the proffsionals.

I think the advice mentioned above would be better in the long run, new bumpers and maybe set of skirts, blendin in skirts would be better for the long run over the arches and so on, but the choice is yours just be warned its not IF they crack its WHEN they crack
