Colour Coding Front LIghts

i posted a message on there the other day, but i dont think that many people check that thread

    so i was just wondering

is there another way of getting the glass off? other than puting them in the oven??

    cheers

i would say heating it up is the best option as you will get more flex and the clue may melt a little bit.

oh ryt, might just do that then

but its a gas oven, so it wont melt the plastic bit of the lights or anything will it??

just checking, becasue knowing my luck something will go wrong

Would think aslong as not in oven for extreme amount of time wont melt the plastic!

The only other way i can think of is using hair dryer or something similar to melt the glue that way

Hair dryer/heat gun sounds like a better option to me?

when doing my fogs i tried using a hairdryer and it didn't seem to get quite hot enough to melt the sealant...

I wouldn't risk them in a gas oven, only an electric oven. Use a heat gun, probably not that expensive to buy one yourself... or find a friend that will let you use their oven... i lined my whole oven with foil incase it leaked sealant...

    Good luck

yeah best thing is a hairdryer mate, then use a few small screwdrivers to lever the glass off just take your time and you will get there in the end
  11. #11
    alright

doing this tomorrow, and using the hairdryer

just wondering, roughly how long will it take from start to finish to do?

just making sure that i wont need my car in that amount of time
  12. #12
gonna take over a day for paint to dry fully etc
  13. #13
two days to get it done properly. However, you could possibly get it done in under a day but it wont be dry when you put it back on ze car
  14. #14
can take a while mate, hairdryer u have to be patient as it takes while to get to right temp, apart from that depends how easy u find sprayin etc
  15. #15
should take about a day for it to be 100% done.

if u get up at a reasonable time that is
  16. #16
i know you's will probs be sick of me going on about this now but...

how long do you wait in between spraying stuff

lie i know u wait 15 min between coats of primer, but how long do you wait from the primer, to spraying the colour that you have chosen??

just if its a long time i will primer it on the night and then be able to paint the colour the next day (and how long from putting the paint on, til refitting the lights back together? as i'm not lacquering them)

    cheers

I waited 15 mins for the paint after the primer but I did so because I was spraying thin layers at a time so took a few to get it done either way leave it overnight and refit it back together next day, easy.

wouldnt bother with just a hairdryer.

Use a fan heater too. then you concentrate the fan heater on one part whilst aiming the hairdryer at another.

what sealant does everyone use to re-seal the lens.

do you just re heat and re use the sealant?
