what's all this about??

   hi there, took the flywheel off the engine I'm building today to find it has "j4" drawn on the side of the block in yellow pen. is this normal or could it denote that somone has been at it before??

   looks like its its warehouse number or something similar sometimes see it on parts from scrap yards etc a way of filing parts

   quite right, however, I removed the engine from the car myself, and the flywheel was covering it??

   I would just ignore it! It ill have been there from the day it was cast before the flywheel was put on - just an identification number like stiffler said

   often see this on parts taken from a scrap yard. wouldn't of thought its anything to panic about.

   All fair coments, and seing as the engine came from a low milage mk2, I'll just assume psa put it there.
