I will get another pic up

it basically bolts to the left hand side of the inlet manifold and feel fairly sure its some kind of idle valve or plays some part in the idle of the car. I think this is the cause of my car ticking over so high (1200rpm) all the time even when warm.

there is a little plunger in there that works off a motor, it adjusts the flow of air in there and i am sure its not working as it should. anyways, here is the other picture.

Looks like the throttle position sensor to me but i could be wrong.

is it not the wrong side of the engine to be that? throttle body etc is the other end of the manifold.

As i said i could be wrong but it really does look like that to me it looks the same as the one on my old RST in same place as well if it is and its playing up i would think that that might cause you car to idle high?

it looks like some sort of air sensor maybe?

been done the scrappy and got another one and fitted it but has made no difference. Obviously i dont know if that one was any good or if i have the wrong end of the stick alltogether.

what was odd though was that when i dissconect the plug it make no difference whatsoever?

just looked in the haynes.it is your idle actuator valve x

    stepper motor ..

did you reset it after you fitted it ??

each gear up to 3000 rpm
    stop
    switch car off
    on
    off
    on
each gear up to 3000 rpm

after that should be ok ...??

You may have just given me the answers to all my problems (could be a rep coming your way )

just to go through the procedure again

you say each gear upto 3000rpm - is that take it for a drive and change gear at 3000rpm?

its youre idle control valve mate

if it still does it loosen the throttle cable, and check voltage at tps sensor, should be less than 0.6v at idle ,if not idle control will not operate correctly

do you think it could be the TPS at faut then? I do know the throttle cable itself is corrctly adjusted.
