How many miles to a tank? (VTR)

  1. #1
    Hiya,
I am new to the forum and new to owning a Saxo. Previously owned a Renault Clio 1.5dci, now I own a P reg Saxo VTR and I am really feeling the difference on my pocket fuel wise! The clio ran on next to nothing cos it was a diesel. My boyfriend keeps telling me that my Saxo is using an average amount of fuel for its engine size but I just wanna check with other VTR drivers. How many miles do you usually get to a tank? Im getting about 320, is that right? Cheers.
  2. #2
Thats about what i get, sometimes more, sometimes less. depends how you drive it. Drive it like a granny and you will see more. Drive it like you stole it and a fair bit less lol
  3. #3
your lucky .... 230/40 to a tank in my vts
  4. #4
230?!! I feel much better now
  5. #5
    195 miles, yeh boi, lol
  6. #6
regular servicing will help reduce fuel bills as will a lighter right foot.

472 miles wsa my best in my vtr, normally over 400 everytime though
  7. #7
i'm getting around 70miles on a tenner of fuel in my vts
  8. #8
320 seems dead on. i get sometimes less and sometimes more
  9. #9
i rev the arse of mine, leave it low gears all the time, go fast.

im being honest, not gonna say i drive slow, if i wanted to go slow, i wouldnt buy a vtr.

I get between 200-250 out a tank. With a Powertec induction kit.
  10. #10
same 260-300 depending on driving style.

ive been told ive got a smaller tank though?
can only get £30 petrol in from total empty.
  11. #11
    i get £34 in
  12. #12
300 on average for me also, would love to know how some people are getting over 400 plus!

I mean, i drive sensibly i dont really see how i could improve over what i am getting
  13. #13
i get £250.... with normal driving

  15. #15
Best was 447 miles from a full tank (£39).

Usual town running, I am getting 350 - 360 miles from a tank.
  16. #16
Out my last tank £34.50, 180 miles.

Yes i do red line every gear, yes i drive liek a fanny haha/
  17. #17
best ive managed to get is 320miles to a tank
  18. #18
I once got 370 Miles from my VTS, but was pure motorway driving.
  19. #19
here's a fact for you petrol consumption increases by 20% between 70mph-80mph!
  20. #20
    340 i get

this makes sense as i got more mpg when i did motorway driving.
ive got a furio and i get 230 - 240 to a tank and thats not "driving like i stole it"

i always thought that smaller engines did more mpg
  22. #22
i get 270 from mine but thats a lot of round the lanes to wrok and town driving, best ive got was 436 on 32 quid going to barmouth
  23. #23
filled my tank up for the very first time,

got 330 to £37. was around 32 mpg

normally see around 36 - 38 mpg i do alot of short journeys round town with a heavy foot now and then...

I spose thats because your not stopping and starting constently? Either way, 20% is a fair bit lol
  25. #25
You get less MPG on a smaller engine car because you are using the gas more and longer time between gear changes picking up speed etc.

    my thoughts exactly.
    anyway...
To a major extent smaller engined cars will do BETTER mpg regardless of the road conditions blah blah.

Mark51... that seems seriously low. I've done literally billions of posts on reasons for poor consumption... do a search if you want to delve deeper and find out why or give me a shoutio

not sure if people read that quite right... but if you do 80mph compared with 70mph then your mpg will DROP by about 20% i.e. not good.

likes cruises... likes to red line...
  31. #31
usually get about 70 miles to a tenner. but worst i ever got was about 35 miles
  32. #32
but... on the motorway going to the lakeside meet i got 160 miles on 15 squids worth was well impressed
  33. #33
Well my fuel consumption gives away my driving anyway.

I am a fairly good driver, im not experienced in slightest but im a good driver.

Im taking a risk. But im enjoying myself, im not driving stupid in town.

Im loving country road blasts at 80/90, and trying bends at 55ish etc... thats what its about.

    In this weather mate....Your clever
  35. #35
its bone dry up here, has been for a few days.

    Perfect conditions
  36. #36
its the people that have to drive past you i worry for - dont give a monkeys about you. i mean that nicer than it sounds lol.
  37. #37
Salmon, in all honesty your posts make you sound like the typical saxo owner that is gives all the rest of us a bad name. When you fly off the road and hit a tree and kill yourself and your passengers we won't think that you were well hard, we will be thinking about the other peoples families who have lost a loved one from YOUR driving.

Is there any way of increasing your mpg cheaply. Obviosluy there is sitting in higher gears whilst drving etc but things like bp ultimate, if i put that in would i actually see the difference in the mpg? Also, fuel addatives, do these actually make a difference. I seem to be having a bit worse mpg at the moment for some reason and i'd like to improve it lol I'd love to see 400 a tank
  38. #38
I was in Stoke On Trent with me dad last week and filled the tank up there £35 total cost got to Hull and still had over half a tank left. then when finally made it home to withernsea i had just over half a tank left......

156 miles the journey was so in total if my dad drove the same all the time id get

    312mpg

il most prob get alot more tbh cos im not always on the motorway plus my dad was driving at the time hahaha my insurance was getting sorted out hence why I was not driving .........

Typical 'I have just passed my test, now let me show off in my car'. You are a complete t*at for doing that and you are going to kill yourself or other road users.

Next time you take a bend at 55ish, you'll probably lose that back end.
  40. #40
loose the back end hmm and most prob loose his life to if he dont watch it....... 55ish round country bends NUTS I live near country roads and they are murder cos of traktors leaving lumps of mud everywhere and if you hit some of that at a speed you gonna go ass up mate....

my bro found that out the hard way in his old proton had it a week and then wrote it off he is lucky he is still with the living.

First of all the cold weather will not do any favours for your MPG so dont worry if it drops a little at this time of year for no reason.

The easy shiz you can do to save a few Mpgs is to...

remove crap from the car (less weight - less the engine has to work)
make sure tyres are bo and at the correct pressure
keep the revs around the peak torque region (engine is most efficient at peako torqueo)
dont floor it everywhere - have a light foot.

^^^ thats pretty much the easy stuff

there lots of crazy things you do to save a few more like.
  42. #42
Oh and I wouldnt bother with the marketing bollocks of BP ultimshite and the rest.

I periodically use fuel additives just so i clean the fuel system out - does the job.

Hmmm.... Call me crazy but id say being a good drive would be pritty much down to experience, you saying your not experienced in the slightest but take bends at 55 etc is what its all about... Hmmm

your a fucking asshole, what if someones comming the other way driving like a sencible person not hammering it but not going like a granny, just using the 2 brain cells which is 2more than you have by the sounds of it, and you kill them, Yeah well good

Your a prick by the sounds of it mate a complete arsehole, Lets see how long b4 theres a r.i.p thread with your name in the title, coz if you drive like an arsehole like that all the time my betting is it wont be long.

i used some stp got teh offer value pack, engine treatment and power booster, hasnt made a great difference people say redex is best. but the car does seem to be running a little smoother and seeing an additional 2 + mpg
  46. #46
Salmon i'd chill out if i were you, dont get me wrong i speed, but i dont do stupid speeds, and i dont take corners at daft speeds either....

you wont be laughing about it, when you rap up, because 1) you could kill someone or yourself. 2) seriously injure someone or yourself....
then 3) if no get's seriously hurt, your beloved VTR will be wrote off, and it's a very nice Saxo mate.

    think about it.

(not having ago at you, just telling you how it is)
  47. #47
i used to get around 380 to a tank in the vtr thats when the petty light came on
  48. #48
