as above!
what best a saxo 1.6 VTs or a Pug 106 Gti
-
#1
-
#2its essentially the same car with simple differences.
The engine is almost identical and performance about even.
The 106 comes with leather interior but the dash is bland
the saxo comes with velour interior and slightly more entertaining dash design.
THe GTI is more exclusive and rare and normally works out to be more expensive for that reason -
#3True, true.like scott says only some little things r different abit, but the 2 r very alike.
-
#4vts is cheaper, and just as fast, and the vts has a better interior
-
#5i believe the pug also has slightly different shocks as well as the part numbers are different. Seem to remember somebody saying about it on the saxosportsclub forum.
-
#6I think the 106 has harder dampers than the VTS, and pretty much all other changes are cosmetic. VTS seems to have a slightly quicker 0-60 time, but it's nothing you'd notice.
The 106 is more expensive to buy, but for some reason the VTS is group 14 insurance, while the 106 is 13. Weird. -
#7mechanically the lumps are the same but the 106 has a slightly different ECU, which gives the raise rev limit and different fueling
-
#8Yeah more or less the same car but the VTS weighs in at 930kilos and the GTI in at 950kilos. That gives the VTS a power to weight ratio of 130BHP per Tonne while the GTI is 128BHP PT. These figure or just for standard cars n i dare say the VTS would win in a 0-100 sprint.
i just clipped these figures from a magazine before anyone calls me a nerd! -
#9OMG there some myths in this thread!!!
-
#10The VTS has a smaller diameter Anti Roll Bar, the VTS has 19mm where as the GTi has a 22mm GroupA items are 25mm (I know as I have one).
There are a few minor difference's but on the hole the two cars are about on par with each other and its only personally tastes in ref to looks that most people clash on.
But in a straight line and on the track there probally would be nothing in it if they where both standard on good tyres. Only thing that really would set them apart would be the driver nothing else imo -
#11Topics from 2004
-
#12Haha, the starter of this thread should be shot.
Anyway, thought I'd just correct VTS Boy
...The 106 GTI comes with a 24mm ARB.
-
#14as said above there vertully the same, only major differnce i can tell is one has leather one doesnt
-
#15The engine in both is the same, including the map, but iirc the software in later models was slightly changed.
The gear box, ratio's, final drive are exactly the same in both.
The springs and dampers on the gti are slightly different as they had 14" wheels standard and the vts had 15" wheels as standard. As said above the gti has a thicker anti roll bar (24mm).
Cosmetically is where the biggest differences lie, with these two cars.
It seems that you can pick up a vts cheaper than you can a gti, mostly because gti are rarer making them more sort after. -
#17dredge alert wooot.

#21Err yea mate, love your witty comments!Quote:is that why the collesium is classed as a mature part of history?? because it was designed at the same time as a 106 dash?
106 may be semi ancient but still looks good on todays roads. You will find
that the people will agree. -
#22was there a mention of the whole car or just the dash??Quote:Err yea mate, love your witty comments!

i like the 106, just hate the dash, its shit. one of the main reasons i didnt get a 106 back in the day. -
#23No mate you didnt refer to the car as a whole but I imagine the whole car
was designed the same time as the dash. I wasnt there when Bob was drawing
the plans.
I agree it looks fuggly at first, was one of the reasons I wanted a Black MK2
VTS over the GTi. But when you do look at the car as a whole the dash grows
on you, its a small price to pay for such a good all round car. -
#24if it had a saxo dash the car would look so much better inside. the leather made the car alot more comfortable to drive etc... but the dash just keeps it looking cheap unfortunately.Quote:No mate you didnt refer to the car as a whole but I imagine the whole car

s2 gti has basically the same dash as an s1, so not designed at the same time either really.
gti/s2 rallye with morettes looks awsome. shame pauley dixon sold his blue s2

#25Now I know alittle about VeeDub worlds and I know you can fit a Mk1 TT dash in most Golfs, Corrados etc, would it be possible to fit a Saxo dash in a 106?
Huge job agree but the saxo dash doesnt seem to have dated to badly.
Girl I work with has just bought a 52plate Zetec-S and although the outside shape is quite nice, the interior is dyer! -
#26Saxo dash wouldnt suit the 106 at all imo. Weather I like it or not the 106 is
boxy and square (my GF reminds me of this everytime she sees it
) the Saxo
is more curvy.
When you compare the differences of the two it reflects this:
front lights
rear lights
mirrors
and the dash
Saxos have more curves, 106 has more edges. Hence why I reckon the saxo
dash wouldnt look right in the 106. -
#27have you ever seen one in a 106???Quote:Saxo dash wouldnt suit the 106 at all imo. Weather I like it or not the 106 is

ive seen a few examples over the years and it actually looks v good. -
#28But then so does Mk2 Golfs and Corrado's are pretty square and the very curvy TT dash really does suit the Retro styled moddern take.
-
#29same shell, so yes. its not a big job either.Quote:Now I know alittle about VeeDub worlds and I know you can fit a Mk1 TT dash in most Golfs, Corrados etc, would it be possible to fit a Saxo dash in a 106?

#30and all fords bar the proper models like the RS are fucking dull interior wise. the fiesta has rthe same style interior as from 1988 lol
-
#31Its very possible to fit a saxo dash in a 106. I'd love to do that. Apparently the wiring can be a nightmare though.
-
#32Word Rushy!
Ryan - WTF are you talking about? I don't believe for one second that you'd even keep such a heavy object as a dash in your car! You slaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa aaaag! -
#33Wrong, when refurbing the beams i have found the "majority" of VTS's have 22mm arb, and most of the gti's have 24mm arb'sQuote:The VTS has a smaller diameter Anti Roll Bar, the VTS has 19mm where as the GTi has a 22mm GroupA items are 25mm (I know as I have one).
Edit - already been answered! -
#342 millQuote:
1mm out lol
-
#35the 106 has a better glove compartment and my left bollock has a bit more play on the leather. thats about it tbh
-
#36Nope but I imagine them to look the same as one in a Saxo.Quote:have you ever seen one in a 106???

My point was that the reason for the boxy look of the 106 dash is cause the
car is boxy. Saxo dash is more curvy cause its a more curvy car.
Comparing my 106 dash to the my old VTR's dash. The 106 one looks a lot neater
and clean:
The VTR glovebox was slightly more flimsy and looked crap
I hated the VTR door cards, much prefer the 106 ones.
The position of the central heaters is better on the 106 as its beneath the headunit not above.
Fit a flip screen and it covers the heaters in a Saxo I think???
Dials look better in the 106, just come in crappy orange, but the Saxo green
isnt exactly stunning. From what I remember the heater controls look a bit
better in the saxo. -
#37i like both saxo and gti thats the reason ive had both,i agree with rushy that the 106 dash really suits the car and looks nice.i dont know what it is but the chunky look of the gti's is what i like over the curves of saxo.
-
#38We are both so going to get bitch slapped
-
#39lol "awaits harsh comments"
-
#40its a personal opinion, i personally feel the dash really lets the gti down and seems alot more budget, which is a shame for such a good car.
-
#41I do see where your coming from mate. But I think if you owned a GTi perhaps
you would get used to it.
When I first saw it I was like "OMG what the hell is this!!"
But its so simple and neat that I now love it to bits. I will get some good pics up,
see what you think.
I think this thread should move towards other points now and not just the
"dash" lol! -
#42how do you know i dont own a gti or have owned oneQuote:I do see where your coming from mate. But I think if you owned a GTi perhaps

i deffinately belive the later leather was the good call from pug though, the early seats were no where near as good. -
#43Cause you said something on the previous page about the dash putting you off,
and im sure you lately posted some pictures up of your car? Not 100% sure on
that but I think it was a Blue saxo???
Yea the early interior was
!
-
#44i own 2 cars.. on the forum dont know aboutQuote:Cause you said something on the previous page about the dash putting you off,

#45I know about both
Agreed about the dash as well, i have both a saxo and 106 and the 106 dash is gashtastic, as is the 1.5diesel engine
Lol!

1mm out lol
