GTi Brake Setup...

  1. #1
I know NOTHING about brakes so I am hoping you lot can provide me with all the information I need.

I want to upgrade my standard VTR brakes to 206 GTi brakes - the ones that fit behind 14" VTR alloys.

What do I need exactly to be able to do this? Do I need to upgrade hoses? Does the GTi have ABS as standard?

Your best bet is to pm yatesy, boz or williamsvts or campdavid.

i will sell you a brake kit ready to fit your car mate.
you use saxo hoses with them.
and the ABS, the ABS systems aren't in teh brakes themselves so it doesnt matter whether the donor car had ABS or not.

It's Matt who gave me the idea, but I didn't go into great depth about them. Thanks anyway mate.

When you say brake kit, do you mean pads and discs yeah? Sorry, I'm pretty useless when it comes to brakes. How much would it be? Do you have any pictures?

the pug 206 setup is spot on, the gti 266mm discs will sit spot on under your vtr rims no problem, an excellent upgrade to your car for the money. just make sure when fitting them that you soak everything with WD40 the night before you start, as the brake hose that goes into the caliper can be a bit of a twat and you dont really want to risk trying to losen the brake connection under the wing/above the wheel. as if you snap this you have to have new brake pipe fitted.

i just soaked the brake line connection on the caliper with WD40 then used a pair of mole grips on it instead of a spanner, this is better than a spanner as it will definatly round the nut. make sure you fit new brake fluid and bleed the brakes.
this setup will be spot on and is easy to do in an hour or 2. even if you are not mechanically minded

PM me with an questions when you come to do them

I'll give you a PM when I fit them.

    Be worth it though.

Panel Filter for now Matt, bigger engine mods later on this year all being well.
  22. #22
    like????
  23. #23
Well new exhaust, manifold and I'm also looking at camming it in beginning of 2008.

The main reason for getting the GTi brakes is because standard Saxo ones are shite as we all know.
