enclosed and open airfilter

if you brought an enclosed airfilter and in the pipe goin to the engine put a junction so that you could have an open one would you keep the sound and the performance or would it not work. proberly me being stupid but i just thought of it.

so youd have 2 filters, not sure what your getting at, lol

if you had an enclosed one and coming off the side an open one like this

oh i see, nice diagram haha! i don't think its ever been done before! it certainly wouldn't improve your performance anymore by having more than one filter, as the engine only sucks in the amount of air it needs, it would maybe work, noise and performance, but don't forget the open filter is draing in warmer air and the closed cooler air, and when they mix its not going to be as cool as it would with just an enclosed filter, if you get me lol!

but yes, i think you would still get noise and performance!

i was right, lol. thed be no point though, there wouldnt be much difference is sounds anyways

i am only 15 so have no car so i cant try it. i just thought of it. cheers for the reply

I wouldnt have thought it would work well, would be interesting to see.

The warmer air is less so it flows better (ever so slightly). so the open filter will be doing most of the 'work' whilst the enclosed will be sitting pretty without much cool air going in.

basically its pointless but nice question never the less

regarding flow - and I'm not an expert in fluid dynamics - but at the point where the two flows meet there would be a significant amount of turbulance.

    I wouldn't do it personally..

Now if you had a v engine you could have a separate filter to supply each bank of cylinders..
